I will second the part about being chased around with text messages. My girlfriend has no problem yelling at me via text message. Typing a reply on a 2 inch keyboard gets me all the more bothered and I usually end up turning my cell off.

Mom didn't mean to do it, I think, but I never sassed her again. Respecting ones parents goes along way to creating a positive/productive Adult. Fear doesn't hurt either.

I am there for my kids..but i'm not their friend!! I am there Dad and they know it....
How can kids grow up to respect anything if they don't respect their parents? It all starts at home!!!
I like church now...even get emotional over it all....Hated it when I was a kid....all I remember is the nexts of grey haired men and women, but if I didn't have the background, how would i have known where to turn when I needed my religon!!

What scares me is this is the generation that will be changing my diapers in an "Old Folks home", I know they are going to beat me, I just know it.
Learning to provide for ones self is the fundamental cornerstone of self reliance. Please don't start bashing hunters and fishermen, or do you really believe hamburgers grow on trees and Turkeys are born in bags.
Not to mention, still hunting and walking swift water is an excellent worlout. But my guess is you missed thinking about that part. You just had to ccash in on the "Hunters bad" crap.

If you don't eat meat, are your shoes or Belt made of leather?
If none of the above do you live in a city that has removed a life giving enviroment of the animals you wan't to protect?
There is a balance in nature and it includes killing...The forest is not full of Bambi charaters living in peaceful harmony...They kill each other, and when the balance is interupted it goes haywire. In my area the bear hunt has been cancelled and farmers can no longer shot deer out of season on their property.
So now we have too many starving deer and bears looking for food in all the wrong places, eating young trees and finding garbage pails to eat from....
Another case of kids being protected from the real world and making minor issues major...

They will become adults! But I don't think they will take the bull by the horns (in general). There will alway be leaders and follower however we are bringing kids up to be too protected. The live in safe boxes. I don't think they will have the coping skills of generations before.

Maybe I'm the only person who knows nice young people and a$$hold older adults. I know anyone over the age of 40 is prone to nostalgia but I see older adults being rude, violent, selfish, bigots, etc. just as much as younger people. I also see kindness and goodness across the age span.
but exactly...these are the people bringing up the kids we are talking about in this thread.. "My kid comes first" I think it started with 60's parenting.

True, the internet has potential to cause problems in society, and cars have the potential to cause accidents. Should we destroy all cars? No, people learn how to drive.
The negative aspects of the internet are squashed by the amount of potential the internet has to unite humanity; there is communication where there never was before. People from around the world, regardless of race, religion or social standing can discuss different points of view like never before. Ignorance can be squashed. Ideas can evolve at a rate faster than ever before.

I actually do so little dear hunting, because my freinds and I hit so damn many of them, we haven't the need. I will not hunt Bear, for spiritual reasons. But those are my reasons. Far be it, for me to try to intergect my feelings on them to friends of mine that hunt them. That's their choice. I love my wild fowl and game. The taste is much better then anything you can buy in a store(except a Porthouse), and there are no steriods or hormones in them.
We have Bear and dear coming back ten fold, this is a good thing. I take no more then I can use, I share with friends and nieghbours and I do not waste a thing.
I have not only taught my boys, how to fend for themselves, I have also taught them to be respectful or nature and other peoples property, wild life conservation, and to give tobaco in thanks. These are things, far to many kids have not got one clue about these days.
I agree with you Bear and OttawaBill. I have noticed a trend with my sisters and my friends, they are so busy working and attending sports events that there is little time left for the "Family" as a unit. My youngest sister has one night a week that she isn't attending a sports event (swiming, ball, Air Cadets, Sea Cadets, the list is endless) she's so tired when the weekends arrives that she rather just lounge on the sofa and attend Church on Sunday. I admire parents that can keep up the pace, it would kill me.
My father was a Fishermen, but during the off season he was a Mason and we had a working farm. He tought all his children how to shoot a Rifle, how to set snares for rabbits, I learned how to bait gear, how to jig for Cod, what folage to eat in the woods and what not to wipe me behind with (Poison oak/ivy) with the advent of Computers it saddens me that the young don't learn about mother nature and all she has to offer.

I was looking at some stuff the other day, that sounded a lot like him, but I didn't want to make a claim until I could prove it. I mentioned it to a friend of mine, that runs another forum, she said she might drop by and take a look. She has ways of ferreting such things out.
