As Britain frees herself, it's much different for other Member States. Very disturbing...

Translation

"[Germany's] Federal Council wants to better protect the EU symbols such as the flag and the anthem from slurs. In a bill passed on Friday, the State Chamber proposes a new offence, which provides for the contempt of the EU flag or anthem up to three years' imprisonment or a fine. So far, the Criminal Code protects only symbols of foreign states and the Federal Republic of Germany against denigration."

Under German law, Merkel should be charged for disrespecting her country's flag. Doesn't surprise me, though, that she prefers the EU flag to her own country's flag.

Ya mean. . . they might give the EU flag the same status as the flag of Malta?
Oh dear.

Yep. Yet another flag you can be imprisoned for for not respecting in Germany.

Those Germans still haven't quite got the hang of the whole free speech thing.

Canada, for example, has no laws prohibiting flag burning or desecration. Acts of this nature are forms of expression protected by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Great Britain likewise has no laws against the desecration of national flags.

I've heard you can face considerable prison terms for doing the "seig heil" salute, or any kind of promotion of material from the Third Reich.

They want to stop the return of fascism by being fascist.
