Now confirmed that the Saudi LAV-6 deal that was originally for 742 has been cut to 189.

So the reason for letting an American company set up in London Ontario to compromise our national integrity is smaller and less defensible than ever.

To be clear: we should not be selling arms to Saudi Arabia ever for any reason.

The entire episode just illustrates how shallow our ethics really are and why all these cynical Canadians are probably right.

Canada's arms deal with Saudi Arabia is shrinking

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/saudi-arabia-arms-canada-1.4815571

The documents show General Dynamic Land Systems Canada, the London, Ont.-based manufacturer, was — as of spring last year — going to deliver only 742 of the modern LAV-6s, a reduction from the original 2014 deal.
The initial order from the desert kingdom was for 928 vehicles, including 119 of the heavy assault variety equipped with 105 millimetre cannons.
Details of the agreement have long been kept under a cloak of secrecy. General Dynamic Land Systems, the Canadian Commercial Corporation (the Crown corporation which brokered the deal) and the Saudi government have all refused to acknowledge the specifics, other than the roughly $15 billion price tag.

Unintentional, and my main point is that we should never have been selling them arms in the first place.

Then again, its just another American company using Canada as a tax haven.

It's indefensible.

Like dealing with China.

What young Canaians learn is that you can be as violent and repressive as you want to be and Canada will still cozy up to you for money.

It's sad and unnecessary. We do not need that money that bad.

Yeah, that's working out well for Groper. The Saudi's are $1.5 billion in arrears on contract payments.

Canadian Export Agency Lifts Suspension on Saudi Arabia Business

(Bloomberg) -- Canada’s export financing agency has lifted its suspension on Saudi Arabia-related activity, citing an improving environment for the nation’s businesses since a diplomatic blowout with the kingdom last summer.
Export Development Canada its position on Saudi Arabia on Tuesday from “off cover” to “open on restricted basis,” ending a 10-month halt on business. The EDC move to suspend business in the country came after the Saudi government put its own freeze on any new deals for Canadian firms.
“EDC has now made the decision, based on our monitoring, that business conditions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have improved to a point where we can again start considering support for Canadian companies exporting to the market,” spokeswoman Amy Minsky said by email. “We believe there are opportunities for Canadian companies” in the country, she said, “and we don’t want to preemptively close the door to them.”
The move highlights an easing of tensions between the two countries since a diplomatic feud erupted last summer after a tweet by Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland criticized the arrest of a Saudi women’s rights activist. In response, Saudi Arabia lambasted Canada for interfering in its domestic affairs, expelled the Canadian ambassador to Riyadh and ordered a freeze on new investment.
Before the incident, EDC had rated Saudi Arabia as open for business with a low risk of political interference. It’s current “restricted” status means that “we recognize there are risks, but are open to assessing transactions on a case-by-case basis to verify whether each meets our requirements for sustainable and responsible business,” Minsky said.
At the time of Freeland’s tweet, EDC had exposure of about C$2 billion ($1.5 billion) to Saudi Arabia, and about 250 customers operating in the kingdom.

I wonder if Freeland had to apologize for the shot she fired over twitter

Since her tweet the Saudis have kidnapped and executed and dismembered an American journalist critical of the regime.

So I wonder why anyone anywhere ever has anything to do with them.

Oh wait.

Money.
