The economy has been slowing down now for almost 20 years since the high rolling days of the 1998's when tek start up's seem to be on a tear.
So what have been the consequences of this long & slow decline?

Well, To maintain quality people have been prioritizing. Cutting out expenses. Who even has the money to entertain guests anymore for example. How bout children? Nah. Cut them out too.

It seems that we haven't yet come to the realization that America has fallen. It is no longer a great super power of the world economy. There aren't enough jobs left to maintain our standards of living. With fewer jobs and many willing to fill them, wages have stagnated. Cost of living has continued fuelled by its own equity, But reality stands firmly. When will we be ready to accept that our standards of living are no longer sustainable.

I mean, Yes sure. I can spend most of my free time on social media and forums to save money and keep myself occupiedto maintain my high standards of living, but am I really Even living? Im not so sure anymore.

Housing market bubbles, Low birth rates, Pilling deficit on provincial government and federal. Record high consumer debts.

Who even has money to buy furniture anymore? Millions of items are traded online everywhere everyday in a society where there is no longer enough money to pay for goods sold in stores like Sears.

When are we going to accept we no longer can expect high quality standards.

We have to face the music one of these days, We can't keep ignoring the truth

So, what do we all do with that information? Close the windows and turn on the gas ovens?

Blame the Mexicans and Chinese?

Been closer to 40 years now.
One job plus wife at home plus 2-3 kids plus one toy (bike, cottage, boat) has been completely erased.
Middle class America has been gutted, middle class Canada has put it all on the charge card.
Wages in Canada have stagnated due to too many industrial jobs going away, replaced with McJobs,
and way too immigration.
People in Canada should be much happier they missed the real recession in 2008,
people in Southern Europe have been whacked pretty hard, and in the US as well.
But the price for it has the insane policy of letting people sell other houses for ever rising prices competing with foreign speculators,
little growth in the real economy, green taxes, and Alberta getting whacked really bad when the price of oil fell.

However to be fair, people's expectations are too high these days.
2500 sqft house, 3 new cars, every toy possible, and $300 a month phone bills.
Consumer debt is a product of culture, me me me and now now now.. our grandparents would not be impressed.

I'm not so sure about birth rates Angstrom, it seems the GenZ/millenial group could be the biggest since the Boomers.
Gen X and Y better hope mommy and daddy leave them a house, if not they are screwed.

We will see, but you are right that Canada has not seen the bottom, not even close, it will hurt
pretty bad when it happens..

Well first we need to stop living in denial. And face the truth that things are just not that great. Its hard to work on a problem when you don't even acknowledge there is one.

What are you talking about? Life is good! The economy is great! All we have to do is just keep borrowing money! What could go wrong!? Just listen to our pretty prime minister and smile!

Oh, and keep bringing in masses and masses of immigrants from the third world, especially the middle east!

Im not very hopeful that spending billions on infrastructure will change our faith.
We will need something as big as the industrial revolution to maintain our standards.
