Well that was pretty darn cool...........you could hear the Canadian contingent in Pittsburgh singing our anthem, loud and proud even over the fellow singing it...............way to go Sen's fans.

After fighting off 2 over-lapping Pittsburgh PPs, Ottawa just got the first goal of the game. Pens looking sluggish out there tonight and can't seem to solve the checking by Ottawa.

Pens will go into the 2nd P down 1 to the Sens but will start by finishing off a PP. The Sens have been great on the PK almost getting two short-handed goals but they keep going to the box - once for too many men on the ice and that was during a PK. Still......they have the only goal in the game so far.

FYI it was Jean-Gabriel Pageau who got the goal for Ottawa.

Malkin goes to the PB for holding nullifying the remaining time on what has been and is a really bad PP for the Pens. They have now had over 5 minutes on the PP and the Sens PK has gotten the best of them each time.

Ottawa off to the PB once again on an overly aggressive and really unnecessary hit by Mark Stone - their 5th of the game.

End of the 2nd P and the Sens still own the only goal of the game. It was a slightly better period for the Pens but Flower has been the one keeping them in it. The goal posts and the excellent play of Anderson have combined to keep any Pittsburgh pucks out of the net.

FINALLY............with just over 5 minutes left in the 3rd, Malkin finds the back of the net underneath the stick of Anderson........and now the fans are back into the game as we are ties 1 apiece.

And we are off to OT tied 1 - 1. The Senators were outplaying the Pens all night long until Malkin got that goal and the Pens finally started to find their feet - enough to get them into OT at least. Both goalies were solid tonight. It's anyone's guess who will score the winner.

A break-away goal by Bobby Ryan and the Sens take Game 1. Well done Senators.

When i talked to Captain Kirk he told me one thing, hope...

Hope's good, Johnnny.......especially when it works...........tonight - it didn't. 1 measly goal - those stingy goalies - but it was the one that counted. Pens tie the series.

Some good hits early but other than that some overall lacklustre play from both teams-injuries are showing more & more.

This time of year and especially having gone through the tough series they have, both teams are hurting - injuries are the last thing they need but they were almost dropping like flies tonight, Bill. I agree that neither team really had the jump they needed but do give the goalies kudos for keeping the pucks out that they did.

Y'all got an interesting notion of what a senator looks like.

Might wanna try a more accurate logo:

It's 4 - zip Sens and there's still 5 minutes left in the 1rst P - the Pens look completely flat-footed and somewhat shell-shocked out there.

Can't believe that Fleury got chased

Sullivan had little choice, Cap......I'd have pulled Flowers too if for no other reason than his confidence level took a big hit out there. He wasn't getting any help from his teammates either - that last goal went in when a Penguin tried to get it out of the crease and only managed to push it in far enough for Marc Anrdre's foot to push it all the way. Meanwhile when the Pens do get a shot, the goalposts are sticking up for Anderson. Ugly first period for my guys - fantastic first for the Senators.
