Tories self-destructing

The federal Conservatives these days are a textbook example of the political reality that if you stand for nothing, you’ll fall for anything.

While Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Liberals soar in the opinion polls, the Tories are hurling themselves into the black hole of political irrelevancy by turning on each other and pretending to be Liberals.

The latest example is a bizarre brawl in the party over leadership contender Kellie Leitch’s logical proposal that immigrants to Canada should be screened for “anti-Canadian values".

Not only has Interim Tory Leader Rona Ambrose condemned the idea -- thus displaying bias in a leadership race in which she should be neutral -- but fellow leadership contender

Michael Chong has accused Leitch of “dog-whistle politics”.

In other words, he’s saying Leitch is trying to win the Conservative leadership by using code language to appeal to racists within the party who are anti-immigrant.

That was the Liberals self-destructing about five years ago when they weren"t even the opposition.

Careful. The gods don't like hubris.

There is a leadership struggle and people are forging the direction of the party
for the future. If they steer clear of the Harper style of politics they will do better
at present the former government is fresh in the mind the Tories are in the
penalty box the NDP is in the wilderness the greens are no longer relevant
and the Liberals hold the mantle of power sounds like 1968 all over again eh
