awesome then i am going to ask you....I usually buy butter pre-cut into the four sticks...how long can I "safely" store it in the fridge?

You can freeze butter if you're that concerned and really don't use it that often. My mom used to do it all the time.

Hmmm, will it sound weird if I tell you I've never had butter go bad, so I have never paid attention to 'best before' dates?

lol no, I just had it in there for baking I had done in the summer, I was going to use it for Christmas but was afraid I might poison someone so I threw it out....It likely was fine but ya know: "if in doubt" etc.

lol, I have two separate standards for stuff like that, and it would probably make any food safety specialists cringe. If I notice something is 'past date' but still smells good, I just don't serve it uncooked (ie, I wouldn't use it on toast), I only use it where I can cook it to be on the safe side.

Milk can be frozen as well. Always keep my butter in the freezer. Take it out as needed.

We go through milk too quickly in this house, so that wouldn't work. I know my mother in law used to use butter, never margarine when making mashed or scalloped potatoes so she used to put it into little cubes in a baggie then pull it out directly from the freeze to use it, no defrosting.

If I come across butter on sale, I'll buy a bunch and toss them in the freezer too.

I am a total germ-a-phobe and I have zero problem with that ♦

My chidren's favourite nursery rhyme was "Betty Botter bought some butter". Margarine just doesn't cut it!

Tried margarine but didn't like the taste so stayed with butter. I keep some in the freeze, one in the frig and a small container on the counter for toast in the morning.

Did you know that butter is better for you than margarie because margarine blocks the production of the good colestoral. On the other hand butter is just like eggs they don't cause enough bad colestoral to make a difference but it does help you produce good colestoral.

As a child, I always looked under the bed and slept with my back to the wall.
the wall was too frigging cold to plant your azz up next to in the winter, as for looking under the bed, I was lucky, I had one of those old metal beds that were high off of the floor, a quick look on the way past easily showed that there was nothing dwelling there...however after i got a new bed lower to the floor, I never trusted what it could harbour in that small space

You guys are welcome to your cholesterol... er... oh, sorry, I meant butter. :)

I use various things instead of butter: vegetable, canola, olive and other oils, or vegan margarines.

For me it was the closet. Still can't sleep with the door open, lol.

As a tad, at night if home alone (Parents and siblings out for coffee), when the furnace kicked in, I could hear the demons scrabble along the ducts. away from the heat, Fear like icicles would spread from chest to arms to hands. I knew it was just a matter of time.
