Yep, I hear ya... The occasional Monday night draft beer and hot wings adventure can provide all kinds of excitement for a good 18 hours after the fact.

That loquacious atonement brought a man-tear to my eye.

- Locutus ... As George Burns would have put it, sincerity is the most important element of a good apology and if you can fake that, you've got it made. However, I do regret causing you to indulge in a lachrymose moment but assure you that it doesn't make you any less of a man and that all of us here respect you just as much as before.

According to that link there are "110 million privately employed workers; 88 million welfare recipients and government workers and rising rapidly''

According to the government statistics there are 4 million welfare recipients:

By the way, note how those numbers are endorsed by the CONSERVATIVE Cato Institute.

Again, the choice is yours - believe the right wing lies or believe the truth.

Leaders of the American business community, who have long indulged the Republican far right as an instrument toward their own ends, seem to be growing weary of its political excesses. Recognizing the public verdict of last month’s election, corporate officialdom is moving toward moderation on taxes and other issues, showing support for the Obama White House and edging away from congressional Republicans.

The latest top executive to endorse the president’s position on rescinding the Bush tax cuts for the top two percent is Fred Smith, CEO of Federal Express and a former economic advisor to Senator John McCain — who denounced as “mythology” the notion that raising the top rate would damage the U.S. economy.

Smith joined a lengthening queue of business leaders from all sectors who have stepped up over the past week to voice their acceptance of increased taxes as part of a budget agreement to break the stalemate on Capitol Hill — not only to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff on December 31, but because fairness requires the wealthy to pay their fair share. Randall Stephenson, chief executive of AT&T, the nation’s largest telecom company, told Business Week that higher taxes and more revenue must be part of any budget agreement. So did Lloyd Blankfein, the CEO of Goldman Sachs. And so did a group of defense industry executives from companies such as United Technologies, RTI International, TASC and Northrop Grumman.

Hey gopher.

Still waiting to hear your position on why capital gains preferential taxes are 'welfare' considering that the taxes have already been paid once on the capital.

Oh that is the new Democrat line. When people who work for a living get to keep more of the money they earned from a JOB they are calling it WELFARE now. The Democrats have always believed that the money that people earn actually belongs to the government and THE government is kind enough to allow you to keep some of it.

I just get a kick out of the talking-points that the left needs to leverage as their crutch.

Capital gains is a great example: You make money (income); pay the full tax load on it and later invest it into something to get a better than avg return.. Because any society relies on this cycle, they promote it, thereby bettering their local and national economies, and offer a lower tax rate on the invested monies. Somehow this qualifies as 'welfare' as if these people are getting gvt cheques in the mail along with a bunch of food stamps.

It's especially frightening that the left hasn't put 2 & 2 together to understand that the economy is entirely predicated on the private sector. The demands to keep going to the well WILL result (in it's extreme form) in transforming into a Greece . Like it or not, that is the case.

Same as the new line from the Dems... you didn't start your own business... the government did... the roads you drive on... police and fire... that was the government.

He left out the fact that the government gets the money for things like roads, police, and fire from its citizens. However most Democrats are too dumb to realize this and that is their base. All this "free stuff" is paid for by tax payers... people who work.

... And there lies the rub... If a private group 'didn't start their own business' based on the notion that the roads, etc were from the gvt; then what is the responsibility of those that don't pay tax and suckle at the gvt's teat for their mere existence?

Does that insinuate that they are even more indebted to society than those that work?... When can society expect some kind of pay-back?

Hey gopher.

Still waiting to hear your position on why capital gains preferential taxes are 'welfare' considering that the taxes have already been paid once on the capital.

When you earn a salary, you report 100% of the gain as gross income. When you make a capital gain you report 15% of the gain as income. Of course, the rate is subject to change. But the fact remains that you do not report income on 100% of the gain. Therefore, contrary to your views, it is welfare.

"black guy in the White House"

Satire folks. Nothing to get too excited about.

By the way, where is the praise from the forum right wingers for the job growth and business expansion under Obama ???

QUOTE=Locutus;1684745]73% of New Jobs Created in Last 5 Months Are in Government

Seventy-three percent of the new civilian jobs created in the United States over the last five months are in government, according to official data published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In June, a total of 142,415,000 people were employed in the U.S, according to the BLS, including 19,938,000 who were employed by federal, state and local governments.

By November, according to data BLS released today, the total number of people employed had climbed to 143,262,000, an overall increase of 847,000 in the six months since June.

barry barry, quite contrary, how does your government grow:

You've already paid the full tax load on the money, they are after-tax dollars that were used.

If that's your opinion of corporate welfare, exactly what do you call the welfare that exists in the form of social services; extra-special-entitlement-freebie-money?

Forward!

Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!

Political Wire, December 4th - Filmmaker Michael Moore received $841,145 in tax incentives from the State of Michigan to make Capitalism: A Love Story, a documentary against corporate welfare, the New York Times reports.

Detroit News, Dec.7th - ...a plan is being solidified in the governor's office that would guide Michigan's largest city through what is being called a managed bankruptcy.

small dead animals: Forward!

Locutus presents a link which alleges that government created 73% of the jobs.

By contrast the following shows the truth:

economy creates 146,000 jobs ~ Economy Creates 146,000 Jobs, Rate Slides to 7.7% - Yahoo! Finance

private industries 118,000 jobs ~ Private Sector Gains 118,000 New Jobs in November - Yahoo! Finance

thus, contrary to the right wing delusionalism, private industry created 81% of the jobs

It is a good bet that if you bother to check out the truth as opposed to the right wing lies, most likely you will come up with similar figures in the other months as well.

But again the choice is yours --- believe the right wing lies or believe the truth.

As for capital gains getting taxed twice that is a myth we have discussed innumerable times on this forum since corporations get deductions and many don't even pay taxes. Then there is also the matter of tax shelters used by billionaires like Romney. All of which prove the wealthy are corporate welfare queens.
