Define professionals. I know for a fact that we are seeing a shortage of trained tradesman, in ALL the trades, and it is only going to get worse as the population ages.

I hear complaints all the time about having to pay $100-$200 plus per hour for tradesman to do work on your vehicle or equipment in your homes. Wait till the last of the boomers retire and these tradesmen can write their own ticket because there is such a shortage.

And do you think we are going to find say carpenters from Asia? They don't live in wooden houses there, they live in concrete apartments. Why doesn't business want to train tradesmen? Retirement! disaster is looming!! Argh!!! They always say that.

Immigrants from Asia don't seem to pick up trades. Why take them? So much growth, so few tradespeople.

roflmfao..... one more example of you not having a clue.

If not immigration, where do you propose that these new tradespeople come from? You have a magic wand that can produce people to fill the gap?

So smarty, you're hired to solve this crisis, if you don't heads will explode, patios will not be built, pipelines will not be built etc. Hey, those pipelines to the west coast will be built no matter what home boy. There's money in oil and they will get the job done. Some people can't buy a clue.

The demand of tinkerers will grow, the equivalent of the garage sale journeyman. Changing manufactoring to produce heirloom quality products and the demand for repair services takes a big drop.

Can anybody translate this?

I'm still stumbling around the China/house comment. Not from my stash but I suspect mold directly interacting with a few braincells.

Rofl..... backyard mechanics eh. You look under the hood of your car lately? How about opening the doors on that new 96%-98% efficient furnace? How about one of those new tankless water systems? Have you taken a look at the new building codes? Backyarders? Go for it, I can double my repair bill, at least, when I come in behind one of these "backyarders".

Thanks for the laugh, you never fail in that.

Hey Gh, what's a reasonable price to pay for a quality tankless water heater?

I'm in the market, to replace the antiquated tank.

For anyone interested, here is the current list of trades for which an immigrant can be hired:

0811 Primary Production Managers (Except Agriculture)
3142 Physiotherapists
3215 Medical Radiation Technologists
3222 Dental Hygienists & Dental Therapists
4151 Psychologists
6241 Chefs
7215 Contractors and Supervisors, Carpentry Trades
7241 Electricians (Except Industrial & Power System)
7242 Industrial Electricians
7251 Plumbers
7265 Welders & Related Machine Operators
7312 Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanics
7371 Crane Operators
7372 Drillers & Blasters - Surface Mining, Quarrying & Construction
8222 Supervisors, Oil and Gas Drilling and Service

Interestingly, someone of my skills would not be able to come to Canada, unless I had a job as a chef... Bear in mind that the company I am currently working at basically invented the position for me when I applied, and I expect that many companies in Canada that are currently growing and have a shortage of labor would do the same thing.

Space and energy savings.

Ok... space yes, energy savings yes, actually money in pocket no. On average, it's about a 15 to 20 year ROI when going from a tank to a tankless because of the extra costs.

Ya, I factored that in. I was wondering what a fair price would be, in your opinion, for a unit for a family of four.
