talloola there are a lot of times I agree with you but this is not one of them. You proved
my point about Vancouver fans. They claim the Canucks are everyone's team in BC and
it just ain't so. Almost everyone I know has a different team and most are not Canuck
fans. Nucks are emotional they don't look at their situation clearly. First they have a
goaltender they can't depend on when the going gets really tough as was displayed last
year in the final round. They whined about the refs, who ref a game the way it should be
and the players have to be able to stand up to the punishment. They need at least one
more good defence man.
As I said in my original post and you might of missed it, I am a Canadians Fan always have
been. Yes they need a coach, a goaltender, and someone who can pull these guys together.
Most of all they need some Canadians and get rid of the offshore crowd. I am very critical
of the team I cheer for but I do not condone mediocrity. The Canucks are unlikely to win the
final round again this year, because they don't have the hardcore depth they need.
You may love them and that is fine, but you have to look at it with a critical eye, but of course
most Canucks fans, some family members included never do they just say everyone else
doesn't know how great they are.
The fact is they are not winners, they lost the Stanley Cup last year, because they didn't have
the finish they needed. If they made the changes and thought about their short comings they
could be a great team. You can love them all you want, you can cheer for them until the cows
come home, but if people don't demand more, and the management doesn't make the changes
they need, they won't win the big prize. They may be second, for a few years, but another
team that is not that good will make the changes and surpass them. when people just take a
blind passionate view shouting we're great, it turns everyone else off and they cheer against
that team. I was in other parts of Canada during some of the playoffs and almost everywhere
it was an anyone but Vancouver and that is the view from a great many Canadians.
It is time for them to shape up and build a winner.

Sports fans are more about loyalty and emotion than reason. Last year the Canucks were the best team in the league through 82 games and three rounds of playoffs but fell short in the final round, so for one round they were second best and that is not good enough to win the cup. BUT that's not to say had a few "bounces" gone the other way they may have. I watched all 7 games of the final round and there was some pretty questionable sh*t going on but still it's no use whining about it as had the questionable sh*t been in our favour we wouldn't have complained. Sports is supposed to be a fun thing and shouldn't be taken that seriously!

Once emotion and we can do no wrong sets in it is no longer fun because objective reason
goes out the window. The Canucks were not good enough to win plain and simple had they
observed the situation with reason, they would have made some changes that could have
pushed them over the top. Instead people, fans and management went with reason, they
would have done much better.
The questionable stuff, I have watched that since hockey was still in black and white, its the
way the game goes. Refs let them play in the final and the players that can absorb the bone
crushing, are the ones that win. European players have this thing about winning the league
trophy and they can't get their head around the second season.
If it were me, say with Montreal, I would replace every European player with a North American
one, they are rougher and tougher and in the final round they really hit. Boston did a good job
and Vancouver was no match for them player for player.
The Canucks should get rid of their inconsistent goal tender and shore up some of their weaknesses.
Actually they have the makings of a good team in the clutch. As a Habs fan we have work to do and
within the next three or four years they will be in the hunt for another cup until then I wait but I know
it won't be this year or next.

The Habs seem to have been blessed by the Hockey Goddess tonight with an almost flawless game. Leading 6 - 0 after two periods, they have Mike Babcock feeling a bit of heat. It isn't as if the Red Wings didn't come to play as more that the Habs came to win, it seems like. Puck handling and passing by Montreal has been a thing of beauty at times, smooth, focused, and accurate.

Carey Price, though not having had a lot to do, has been cool and perfect in the net, nice to see him having a good game.

GO, HABS, GO! :canada:

Detroit got on the board just after the 3rd was underway and the score is now 6 - 1 for the Habs.

GO, HABS, GO! :canada:

you should stick to your habs team, because it is obvious you know nothing about any other team.
or did you even watch them tonight, as I did.

boy, didn't they have fun tonight, its obvious detroit had allready started the all star celebrations,
and forgot to bring their game to the rink.

habs looked great, bourque has made a difference, he's no super star, but much bigger than cammaleri,
and has a bit of a mean streak, and can play well.

good for them. babcock won't have a very fun all star week end, he'll be fuming all thru it, after
watching his team tonight.

It was a fun game to watch too, talloola...........always nice to see when a team has such a good night after having so many games where they were less than stellar. Don't know what sparked the great play but it at least gives Randy Cunningworth a bit of a boost.

I like the All Star break too, talloola especially the skills competition. Will be watching the draft on TSN tonight but CBC will cover the competition and the game apparently.

Hockey fans won't have to move far from their television to catch all the happenings during All-Star Weekend in Ottawa.

A four-day hockey extravaganza starts Thursday at 5 p.m. ET on the NHL Network with NHL Live: At the 2012 NHL All-Star Weekend. The two-hour show will feature a number of this year's All-Stars as well as other key personalities from around the hockey world.

That leads into the NHL Network's hour-long 2012 NHL All-Star Player Fantasy Draft preview show at 7 p.m., where the Network's cast of analysts will make their selections before Team Chara and Team Alfredsson make the official ones.

At 8 p.m., the players will be front and center for the 2012 NHL All-Star Fantasy Draft. Daniel Alfredsson and his assistant, Henrik Lundqvist, will put their selection skills to the test against Zdeno Chara and his assistant, Joffrey Lupul. Who will be the first player picked? Who will be the last? Will teammates be separated? Will brothers? Watch the drama unfold on the NBC Sports Network in the United States and TSN in Canada.

The NHL Network will have blanket coverage of NHL All-Star Media Day on Friday, as all the stars and coaches talk about what it means to be among the best in the game. Fans can tune in for live coverage from 3-6 p.m. ET. NHL Tonight will have recaps of all the day's events at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Saturday will see the stars showcase their skills at the 2012 Molson Canadian NHL All-Star Skills Competition (7 p.m. ET, NBCSP, CBC). Can Zdeno Chara win another title in the BlackBerry NHL Hardest Shot competition, or will Nashville Shea Weber tear through another net, like he did at the Olympics? Who will show off their pinpoint accuracy in the Canadian Tire NHL Accuracy Shooting contest? And who will bring down the house with the most creative move in the Allstate Insurance NHL Breakaway Challenge?

The NHL Network's pre-game show will start at 4 p.m., and NHL Tonight will wrap up the event with hIghlights and analysis after the event.

On Sunday, the stars will light up Ottawa when they take the ice for the 2012 Tim Hortons NHL All-Star Game (4 p.m., NBCSP, CBC). The NHL Network's pregame show starts at 1 p.m. Immediately following the game, NHL Tonight will have a recap of the game and analyze all the happenings from the NHL's mid-season extravaganza.

NHL Network broadcast coverage in Ottawa is as follows (all times Eastern):

Thursday, January 26
5-7 p.m. Cisco NHL Live at NHL All

Well that was fun though I have to admit that early on in the draft, I realized that a major reason I watch is to see all those wonderful examples of masculine pulchritude - oooooh la, la! There are some serious cuties in NHL.

I thought it was a pretty cool move of Zedeno to chose Tim Thomas as his second pick in the draft.

I'm sure the last thing on Logan Couture's mind will be the last man standing as he whizzes about town in his new wheels.

yeah, in street clothes they definitely look different, didn't recognize some of them.
oh no strictly business for me, I don't pay attention to muscles, great builds, nice smiles, cool
clothes, um yeah, right. lol

too bad hodgson got stuck on the other team.

this is fun for the families/kids in ottawa for the next few days, time for autographs, and close up
looks at the players, good for them, that is what it is all about.

Zedeno managed with ease to exceed his previous hardest shot with a bullet, more like a missile that hit the radar at 108.8 - imagine if you were a goalie facing that kind of speed! Webber even exceeded last years hardest shot with 106+ of his own.

Got a real kick out of both Patrick Kane and Corey Perry in the Break-Away competition.

Steven Stamkos won the Shoot-Out comp beating several of the goalies while doing so. Go Steven!

Enjoyed listening to Carey Price miked up in the net during the Break-Away. All good fun.

At the end of the day, Team Alfie had 21 points, Team Zedeno 12. Getting ready to watch the game which airs on CBC at 1pm PST.

Go, Team Alfie, Go!

yes, carey price was delightful, and that made me think 'that' next year the goalies should do more to
be part of the show. eg. Maybe have a flap they can lift up with flashing lights, or other silly stuff
to show the skaters as they approach, would add more depth and enjoyment, and lots of laughs.

Maybe a different helmet that has lights or music or a horn or, whatever.

Stamkos was amazing, by far the most talented in a hockey respect, his moves were great.

Will watch the game later, but I am looking forward to the season starting up again, i'm getting hockey
withdrawl.

marion gaborik won mvp the game, big donation to his choice of minor hockey or charity, not sure which one.

Love the All star week, it was lots of fun for the kids, the players and the city of ottawa.

If the league games were played with that amount of 'vanilla' play, the rinks would be half empty, the
game would quickly become boring, just watching players passing and shooting without any other aspect
of the game, so, the body checking and the real intensity of a league game is what makes this wonderful
game so exciting and competetive.

Can't wait to get back into it.

And Grabovik didn't stop at the All Star game, talloola, he was outstanding in spite of TO's loss to the Pens last night. He scored two beauty goals and I think he got at least one assist while managing to be a real presence on the ice in every way he could. This guy really impresses me. Meanwhile Malkin is still keeping the team alive - his goal with 6.6 left in the 3rd, shattering though it was for Leaf's fans, was pure Evgeni.

I do too, talloola, mainly because I think it such a great chance for the players to get to know each other better especially the new guys.

I have to agree with your assessment talloola, it would be boring as I witnessed last night during the TO vs Penguins game. What I really noticed was the speed with which both teams played and the great goal-tending by both sides for much of the game.

Can't wait to get back into it.
Me too, I had the Leaf's game on timer to make sure I wouldn't miss a moment.

marion gaborik has been my favourite player for many years, it began when I saw him many times with the
minnesota wild, (same division as canucks),although he had a couple of very serious injuries which kept him out of the lineup for long
periods at a time, and two separate hip operations, he then became a free agent and signed with the
rangers, had a very good first year, and sort of up and down after that, but this year he is back to
his magical play.

Kind of strayed away from following him so closely when he went to the rangers, but never forget him.
He came into the NHL at a very young age, I think 18, which was unusual back then, and he was the
youngest player to become an unrestricted free agent when he left minnesota.

A great talent

black hawks lost again tonight in calgary, 3-1, lost last night against edmonton, got one point against
canucks, they will be glad to leave the west, me thinks.

black hawks will never forget sam gagne for the rest of their careers, 4 goals, 4 assists against them
last night.
