Maybe I said this already, but an online friend from BC has a son who went to high school with Dave Rosin, and he said Dave is a really nice guy.

Like Dave, I was a lousy skater and could never play hockey. Street hockey, though, I played every day for a while.

Carly Rae is cute. From what I gather, she's doing pretty well. She's not the one I would have predicted would do the best from her season. By the way, "The Truth" (Brian Melo) dropped today. I can't find any current news about that.

(I wish they wouldn't play music under interviews - makes them a little hard to hear.)

Um...what?

Carly's always been determined though, and that's half the battle. On the show she annoyed me, but I do like her singles. I'll have to hunt up Brian's single.. I wasn't overly impressed with what I've already heard.. and I can't tell you how much that frustrates me. Brian has an awesome voice.

They didn't get the memo. *rolls eyes*

What kind of countdown is that? Just a random blog? Ha. I'll take it. ;)

Kris did some sort of video with his friends for a football league.

Did you hear about Lee changing singles? I wonder who's decision that was? Also Ryan talking about how it sounds like John Mayer/Jason Mraz.. neither of which Ryan really plays on KISS FM as I recall.

Mookie's EP also came out today, under the name Mookie and the Loyalists. I listened to the snippets from his EP and the snippets from Brian's album on iTunes and everything pretty much left me indifferent.

It's weird about Lee changing singles at the last minute, especially since his album is also titled Live It Up, which was supposed to be the single.. I guess I shouldn't be surprised since it comes from the 19R/Sony family, I don't know what to expect from them anymore. I'm curious to hear Sweet Serendipity, but I'm kind of already hating the title.

I thought I saw on twitter it that it was a touch football league for special needs kids. That's all I know about it, though.

Did you hear about Lee changing singles?

No. Why did he do that?

Has it occurred to anyone else that they didn't give Lee the big production sound because it was cheaper not to?

Adam did a show in Hong Kong and the crowd seemed very energetic!
Here is a nice vid of Chinese fans singing along to "If I Had You"

Just heard Lee's single. It's meh. It's somewhat catchy, but it doesn't showcase his voice at all. It's very much a "pop by the numbers" song. Fits perfectly into a mold. Not that I'm that much surprised, but I kind of expected more folk-rock than bubblegum pop.

TBH, the song reminds me of LLWD because of the rap-ish part on the chorus. Maybe it will do well on the radio because it's catchy, but I don't think it's strong enough to sell his album.

I've read all the comparisons to LLWD and I guess it does remind me of it in the sense that both songs are really wordy, but the first thing I thought when listening to the song was that SS could be an Archie song. It kind of has that bubblegum pop feeling that I don't find in LLWD. Or maybe it's the voice processing (I'm still so glad that this is something that Kris managed to avoid on his album, I hate autotune!). Compared to his pre-Idol music, it sounds like it's Lee the Robot who's singing on SS. So, yeah, I certainly wouldn't buy his album based on that song for sure.

I guess this means I'll have to listen to it, huh? I'm at work right now so It'll have to wait until I get home. I can't be playing Lee's tunes around here. lol

Somehow I think this is relevant. Mike Posner, who sings Cooler Than Me, played here last night, at H.O.B. There's too many people on pop radio who are like this. Success on pop is not a measure of talent, to me.

Posner’s one hit not so wonderful at House of Blues - The Boston Globe

speaking of Mike Posner. He had a free download of a bunch of songs he did (kinda demo-ish) on his site and I downloaded them because I do like Cooler Than Me. But I agree with that reviewer.. there was nothing else I liked. 11 other songs.. none of which I liked.

Lee's song.. I think it might do okay provided radio plays it.. which with RCA/Sony behind him it might. I'm trying to think of who it reminds me of. It's not John Mayer...LOL - the wordiness is catchy but it's also pretty repetitive. I like that it's upbeat but I don't think I'd buy the album based on that single and at the moment I have no plans to buy the single itself. That being said it might do okay. Then again -- Lee hasn't really had anything do well on the radio... aside from the Boxer which CHUM played the hell out of... and he did get stuck with Beautiful Day which did worse than No Boundaries IMO. (okay yeah, I'm conflicted..lol)

Nice audience in China for Adam. He must've loved that.

My Idol Slezak of course managed to put into words how I feel when I try to compare LLWD and Lee's single:

* To continue the “Live Like We’re Dying” comparison (because I can, and because they are not dissimilar ditties) I wish “Sweet Serendipity” contained some of the former song’s coiled energy. The tense guitar line of Kris’s track — combined with the drawn-out strain he delivered on “liiiiive like we’re dying” (not to mention the background “whoa-oh-oh-oh, whoa-oh-oh, oh-oh-ohs“) gave that single an intensity — a demand that you drop what you’re doing and pay attention, or at least sing along — that “Sweet Serendipity” lacks.

Well, I always thought of Jacob as shameless.

I don't know why, but I can accept Kris's idealism, because when he's not fitting kids with Tom's shoes, or whatever, he's making an effort to be nice and not speak ill of anybody, and all that stuff. So it's a seamless transition from being a nice guy to humanitarian stuff. Jacob is often a snide smart-ass, and that makes it harder for me to see him as the humanitarian. I can't help it.

Nice audience in China for Adam. He must've loved that.

I hope you understand the spirit in which I say this, but I'm glad a couple of his recent stops, including this one, were not sold out. Or so I've read. I'm weary of the "sold out world tour!" meme.

Those fans look thrilled. Very cute. Adam always looks (to me, anyway) just a little nervous or apprehensive when meeting fans. I don't think the poor guy is altogether comfortable in that situation. Onstage he's uninhibited but offstage, he's a different cat.

All right - I'm going to listen to Lee now. Back in a flash.

Okay - I listened to it.

I thought it was boring. Kind of a throw-away? From the way people were talking about it all day, I expected to like it more. The arrangement is kind of ... a mess? I didn't think it sounded clean. It seems cobbled together. I don't think Lee's vocal is memorable. I don't know what else to say. Forgettable.

Slezak? I don't get why this would be compared to anything by Kris in any way. Kris would never sing anything like "Sweet Serendipity." He tries to tell a story, and have good lyrics. As a matter of fact, he doesn't write happy little love songs. Even the happiest are sort of obsessive. Alright With Me is pretty dark when you think about it. This is more like: generic pop. I can't imagine it being a big hit. It's not bad. Jason Castro's first single (which was also kind of an upbeat ditty) was ten times better, in my humble etc.

Yeah, kind of agree my (not-inconsequential bias for LLWD aside) this isn't a song I really want from Lee. I want something, grimier if that makes any sense at all. This seems a bit fluffy. I want more grit from Lee.

Snide smart-asses have feelings too. ;)

"sold out world tour!"

LOL, you didn't capitalize it! "SOLD OUT WORLD TOUR!"

Yeah, well, you're preaching to the choir, now, aren't you? :)

First, I should add to what I wrote: thanks, for sharing that with me! I never would have found it, otherwise. The CTV site always has low volume and I need earphones, but I can't find them, so I will really give it a better listen when I find them.

What I meant about Jacob was just that, since he's usually more mocking than sincere, when he's sincere he tends to come across as too sincere. Trying too hard, maybe. I don't know. Do ya see what I'm saying? Or do you think I'm nuts? (Or possibly both?)

By the way, I think Jacob looks awesome in his standard outfit of white t shirt and black jeans. Most guys (read: me) probably wish they could look that good without trying. (Not that I ever try to look good. lol maybe that's the problem.)

LOL, you didn't capitalize it! "SOLD OUT WORLD TOUR!"

lol. I actually did, originally.

That's a good point. I don't think I particularly want anything grittier, or grimier, since that's never been my thing, but I agree he needs to be truer to whoever he is (and I have no idea who that is). Oh, let's face it, I don't want anything from Lee. Not really.

How did I miss this?

Oh, and SleepinIn, I meant to reply to your comment about Mike Posner. What did the other songs sound like/remind you of? Just curious. Didn't he record Cooler Than Me in his dorm room, or something? I thought that was cool. Though I'm not a big fan of it.

Looks like you all have retired a bit early this evening! See you soon.

I think doing his own headlining world tour in itself is quite an accomplishment The show in Hong Kong was almost sold out with over 90% of the tickets sold. And the ticket prices were very expensive. Some Chinese fans said that they bought standing tickets at HK$890 each (US$116.00). I bet that Adam has been making a good profit off his tour .

I thought it was pretty obvious my comment was in reference to the "sold out world tour" comments made by Adam's fans, that you see everywhere, like in the comments sections of articles. As in, "How dare you criticize Adam Lambert? He is on a SOLD OUT WORLD TOUR!" Etc.

Another interview with Kris from Connecticut.

'Idol" winner Allen to join Lifehouse Friday at MGM Grand - Norwich, CT - Norwich Bulletin

ETA: All these people - and I mean all - make a lot more money that I do. So as far as I'm concerned they're all doing quite well. I think it's always nice if they make plenty of money but of course the main thing is to achieve a balance between doing what you love - and enjoying it - and making enough money to satisfy your needs, or so that you're happy with whatever you're making. The music should always come first though. The main thing is to work to achieve respect for work well done, I think. The money and fame will follow, if the work is good. On the other hand, trying to achieve fame and money, as your goals, will probably lead to misery. So I hope all our faves are on the right paths for themselves.
