What's wrong with 'Apple' as a name?

I knew a family with the last name Loucks, the father nicknamed his daughter Electra, but then had to force himself to stop calling her that.

Nothing if you think naming your children after fruit is appropriate and you don't mind saddling them with a name other children will find irresistibly hilarious.

I know several people named Barrie and Barry.

I gather that you'd agree that 'Peter' is unacceptable, as is 'Dick'? What about 'Harry'?

What about 'Roger'? That one would be horrible.

"Peter?" Why would I have a problem with a name that means "Rock" - as in solid and strong?" Nor do I have a problem with names of some of the greatest English kings.

For the most part I have no problems with most traditional names. But be careful when you name your daughter "Chastity" or your son "Beverly." Names change over time and names from one century may not fit well into another century. What I do have problems with is names that generally stigmatize a child or are likely make him or her the target of ridicule.
