Your absolutely right, we do know how to spend money. The Soviet Union would still be around if we didn't spend the money to defeat them economically? I still think we shouldn't go cold turkey at this time though. I am in favor of raising interest rates to get the cash flowing again, as for more taxes at this time, no.

Exactly, the Swiss mind their own business.
Au contraire, the Swiss mind everyone's business, World bank, Nazi treasure, Saudi oil, Rockefeller riches, etc. and that's why no one invades them.
I thought the Beaver would have asked for the nuking of this country by now, all those big shinny banks? :p

Had the US diffused the cold war, then the USSR may have survived a little longer, and possibly have even evolved gradually into a social democracy without the upheaval it had gone through. And the US would have been economically better off too.

And if we consider the US debt load right now, raising interest rates might be a wise temporary solution to keep inflation under control, but certainly not a long-term panacea. Sooner or later, you'll have to start slashing and burning government spending and raising taxes whether you like it or not just like the rest of the world. American Exceptionalism is a popular myth, not a reality. The rest of the world has to manage its finances responsibly. The US will have to do the same sooner or later.

Well, you're right sort of. Tending other people's stuff is their business, so that's what they do, mind their business; the Swiss tend things. Other people's politics, corporate practises, and other forms of business are not a concern.

It all depends on what a country intends to use its air force for. The F22 is an air superiority jet fighter intended to sweep an enemy air force from the skies. The problem is no nation on the planet has an air force likely to challenge the US and as a result a very expensive high-tech aircraft is very likely superfluous, especially if there are other aircraft that can do the job cheaper. In addition, the way technology is going even the F22 might not last long against future ground-to-air or even other air-to-air missiles. The F22 was originally envisioned as an air superiority fighter during the Cold War. That is a situation that no longer exists. Future wars are more likely to be against enemies that don't have any air power at all. As a result, putting scarce tax dollars into other areas of the military might make more sense.

Is there a threat? It seems to me the best plan would be to keep things maintained while one is dealing with regular issues. If there is a reasonable threat detected, one ramps up. Ramping up when there is no serious threat is a waste. especially if one has cultivated good friendships who are willing to lend aid if necessary.

T F22 is not on it's way out , it will still be around another 20 years , those they have.
The F 35 was coming and they have been talking about it for many years .
way before Obama came around

As long as China, Russia and the U.S. have major differences, anything can happen. Better to be prepared than surprised. Your right about the rest of the world, most likely they will never be a major threat. The F-35 is just a cheaper version of the F-22, in fact it is not even in the same class with it. As it stands now, our F-22 squadrons could be over whelmed by Russia or China, if I am not mistaken there are only about 200 F-22's in our airforce.
