I don't really have a problem with the team (save Staal). I just wish they picked guys based on what they are doing now and not what they have done in the past. I mean, to leave off the highest scoring D-man in the entire league (Mike Green)tells me the team was picked on historical instead of current merit. We are still a favorite for gold but we really shouldn't short ourselves this way.
I'm sure Green is on the short list. With all of those
talented guys up front, they really don't need an offensive
defenceman, who at times does things he shouldn't do, so
the points didn't really mean the most, I think.
Last year in the playoffs, green was terrible, choked.

If the choice is between Weber who at times does things he shouldn't do and has half the points of Green who at times does things he shouldn't do, I'll take Green any day. Then again, Niedermayer and his -9 rating (currently ranked 245th among defensemen) doesn't seem to be doing the things he should be either. Green is also familiar with OV and Semin which would have been a bonus.

It's a simple fact. Based on their play this year, Green deserves to be on the team and Niedermayer does not.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one, and in
my opinion the two don't compare with each other, as green
is a young guy, neidermeyer is not, and they are totally
different types of defencemen, needed for different duties.
They wouldn't replace each other.
Weber is a big, strong fearless talented defenceman, who
can play, and hold his own against anyone, he is a punisher.
Seabrook was picked because he and keith play together all
the time, have great chemistry, hence picked as a team.
Seabrook isn't the greatest skater, but the two of them
together know each other like a book, and will take that
knowledge onto team canada.
chemistry has been considered for this team, as there isn't
enough time to create that aspect of a team, so if it is
allready there, great.
Doughty just turned 20 the other day, but he just couldn't
be denied, he is that good.
If Neidermeyer was playing with Ovetchkin, he would have lots of
points too, or any other good defenceman for that matter.

Niedermayer's issue isn't his point production. It's his horrendous defensive play that has put him in the bottom of his team and the bottom half of the league in plus/minus. His biggest problem is the thing you are most critical in Green's game.

Maybe he is trying to do too much, as this team he's on is
so bad this year, not sure why they are playing this bad,
as they are full of good players.
I haven't watched his play much this season, so can't really
comment on your statement, I'll just take your word for
it, and I'm knowing his play for past years, including last
season, and a few games this season.
He has been so talented over the years, he is a leader, so
whatever is the problem this year it seems to me, will not
be there on the olympic team, it's not anaheim.
Maybe he, along with pronger are two players who were chosen
early on, but his play couldn't have been that bad, because
he would have been dropped by now, just like la cavallier
has been dropped.
He will be the leader in the dressingroom, will deal with
the media very well, will deal with any problems on the ice,
and will give the young players a feeling of security.
At least that's the way I see it.
All choices weren't made just from points alone, other
factors play into it. Maybe they want him with pronger,
as they played together in anaheim. the chemistry thing
again, these defencemen need to know, right from the get go
what each other are doing and thinking.
Neidermeyer is a rover, pronger stays back, they worked
that system great, when they played together.

If Sheldon Souray had not had a concussion and been out for a long time, do you think he'd have had a chance at being picked for the team?

Depends on what type of year he had up til now. I would have picked him over Niedermayer but he would have to have out-played Green and Bouwmeester and I'm not sure he would have.

Where's Wellwood?!!

still trying to grow up lol

did any of you watch anaheim play chicago this afternoon. The goal that toews
scored from kane was a sight to behold, those two play so beautifully together,
a couple of young very very talented players, and that whole team is so exciting,
I make sure not to miss any of their games. I wonder if they will make it to the
finals this year.
of course the two of them will be opposing players at the olympics, as kane is
on the american team. Kesler was also chosen for that team.
Anaheim didn't know what hit them today trying to stay with that chicago group.

I think they will go all the way this year. Their firepower reminds of the old Oilers domination. Hard to stop.

They have fun, they are cocky but good, have such chemistry,
and balance, and I haven't seen so much talent on one team
since, yes, as you say the oilers, but I have to go back
further to the montreal canadians, and kane reminds me of
henry richard, as he smoothly hogs the puck and passes it
superbly when he is good and ready.

I was a diehard Habs fan growing up. The Pocket Rocket was retiring just as I was a kid so I don't remember a lot.

Did you hear the stat on the Sedins? In the month of December they scored more combined points in one month than any pair of brothers since the Richards. And I suppose that means they didn't overtake the Richard's single month record, but quite a feat in itself.

They are awsome now, Henrik was on top of the point list
the other day for one day, till san jose played that night,
and thornton got two points, so he'll have to push for the
lead again.
Can you imagine how they would be doing if Daniel hadn't
of been out of the line up for so long.
Oh well, there is next year, then they can go for it.
They are so poised now, and the team definitely belongs
to them.

Assuming the spend their careers here, I have a feeling that 15 years from now Vancouver will be hanging their jerseys from the rafters. Aside from Bure's 60-goal single seasons, they'll break every other Canucks scoring records.

I agree, and they will have been here about the same length of time as
Linden, and spend their whole nhl career with the canucks.
Yeah, those jerseys will be up there for sure.

I can also see Raymond in another two years, reaching a
level that will be very impressive, I think he has so much
more, and that will come out as he matures.
