Northern Ontario,
At one time or another both parties have used it....
This time it shows the Democrats' desperation:smile:
How desperate have Democrats become to keep their grip on power? Even some of their colleagues have become disgusted enough with their machinations to start speaking out in New Jersey’s 3rd CD, where John Adler faces a strong challenge from Republican Jon Runyan. According to sources within the party, the Courier Post reports that Adler backed a phony “Tea Party” independent candidate to split the conservative vote:
Congressman John Adler’s campaign and the Camden County Democratic Committee recruited “”NJ Tea Party” candidate Peter DeStefano to confuse conservative voters and hurt Adler’s Republican challenger this fall, Democratic operatives say.
“The goal was to take 5 percent of (Republican Jon) Runyan’s vote,” said a Democrat with direct knowledge of the Adler campaign and CCDC operations.
“Steve Ayscue designed the plan with Geoff Mackler following his lead.”
Ayscue is a high-profile Democratic consultant who runs the CCDC. Mackler is Adler’s campaign manager.
Several South Jersey Democratic operatives with direct knowledge of the Adler campaign and CCDC operations spoke to the Courier-Post on condition of anonymity because of what they described as ethical qualms with Adler’s campaign.
Is this illegal? It depends on state law in New Jersey, but at first blush, it doesn’t appear to break any laws. In most places, though, being able to say “They can’t indict me for this!” is hardly a ringing endorsement of a political campaign (note: this analysis not valid in some areas of Illinois).

Right. I don't believe John Adler has anything to worry about in NJ-3, so it kind of makes recruiting a third party candidate to steal votes away from his Republican opponent unnecessary. Some healthy skepticism of this is warranted. Unless... people know the Republican Jon Runyan is going to lose the election, and they are pre-emptively looking for excuses as to why he is going to lose. Yeah, did you ever think about that?

oh come on the parties have run third candidates to split votes for years
The advertisements are never taken seriously anyway, at least not by
people who think. I ran federally as a candidate some years ago, Before
it was over some of the opposition were ticked, but even my own party
was upset at some things I said. The problem is I just told the truth as I
knew it to be. No speaking notes, no fabrications of the truth. I didn't go
beat up my opponent, I challenged them to think of real solutions to the
problems that confronted the country. I wasn't interested in blaming the
current or even the former government for some of the problems.
The reason, we have a problem we can sort out blame later if we must,
right now we had best find solutions to the most serious problems or they
will grow while we wag our tongues, and wring our hands.
The NDP didn't like me saying gun control as we know it won't save lives.
The Conservatives and Reform at the time didn't like my pro choice stand,
because I am into using education rather than the law to control people.
There is a difference between educating people to make a n informed decision
and using the law to turn people into criminals for wanting to control their own
body.
The Greens were really conservatives who want to use the same hammer to
enforce their own personal view of the World
And the Liberals the party with principles and if you don't like those principles
they have other principles.
I took on the Christian Coalition so I didn't expect to get their vote, I offended
business, because they always want concessions but don't feel anyone else
should get a break and I was critical of the Trade union movement because
they went from being pioneers of the social agenda and promoting progress
to being the Money Market Managers of their own pension funds.
See telling the truth has its draw backs. You are only supposed to tell a version
of the truth in a game of us against them and to hell with real solutions.
Nope won't play that game again, it was interesting though. At least my sinuses
and my conscience is clear. And not I didn't get elected.

Sorry for the rant but to suggest there are no dirty tricks and everything is
done according to some tradition of truth honesty and the American way
is pure and utter nonsense, never was like that and never will be it is a game
and if the game ends so does the pomp and ceremony, and the Tea Party
there is the biggest group of whacos of all they are rebels and the bottom
of the barrel of the Republican Party. Once they figure out how the system
works they will be like all the others.
