David Frum, the Canadian born political strategist responsible for Republican electoral successes during the Bush era believes that the fanatical partisan opposition to the Obama health care bill has backfired badly on the Republican Party. By putting their every effort into defeating the bill and refusing to compromise on any aspect of the bill the Republicans have ended up with "an abject and irreversible defeat."

David Frum: Obama hands Republicans their Waterloo - Full Comment

Apparently Republicans have been so badly embarrassed by Mr. Frum's analysis that he has been fired from the right-wing think tank he worked for. So much for freedom of speech.

Of course, when American realize that they pay for something they don't get for four years, it will be crushing defeat for Democrats.

Not to mention the FACT that the Supreme Court of the United States WILLdeclare this encroachment on States' rights as totally unconstiutional.

It is to be hoped, however, that the Supreme Court will be making that decision before it is loaded up with Obama puppets like Sotomayer.

lol.. More like when they turn legal retirement age at 79 do they get Medicare, which will really be 99 years of age for retirement at their rate.

Talk about one a pissed of nation when all retirement benefits become unreachable. They better convert quickly to socialized health care before they really run into financial problems for 400 million elderly citizens they won't know how to cover.

Even the Democrats, who are famous for pi$$ing on the opinion of Americans in the majority (as amply proven by the passing of this bill, achieved by bribes, threats and buy-offs) would not dare to try to roll back the retirement age to 79.

I think thats evident from the fact that the polls showed most Americans and many Republicans admit something needed to change within the healthcare system, the Republicans just fundamentally disagreed with the Democrats on how to fix things.

Apparently Republicans have been so badly embarrassed by Mr. Frum's analysis that he has been fired from the right-wing think tank he worked for. So much for freedom of speech.

He was free to speak his mind and state his opinion, without any fear of persecution from the government or its agencies but that does not relieve him of any/all possible consequences when involved with private entities. Freedom of speech does not give one leave to embarass their employer with impunity, and that embarassment is generally defined by the employer, not the employee.

:p hehe roll back to age 79... I goofed I had to check the requirements which went from 55 to this requirement according to the www.ssa.gov website.

You must be at least 61 years and 9 months old to apply for retirement benefits.

re:'..Crushing Defeat for republicans..'

Are you kidding me?

The democrats are just now reading what they passed and are realizing there are plenty of loopholes.

This passing couldn't have proven more beneficial for the Republicans, the Dems are tanking in the polls as a result of pushing this through, the Republicans couldn't have asked for a better result...weak legislation and deep public resentment..

Crushing defeat? They could have passed this legislation over a year ago. They have had the votes in congress before Obama took office to produce a health care bill.

The Democrats can spout that this was a Waterloo but at Waterloo the French were utterly crushed. The GOP is far from crushed.

In 2008 the GOP barely had a pulse and the Democrats were talking about the upcoming 1000 year reign in power. That fell apart in less than a year.

Regarless of what the public is saying the Democrats are still insisting that they have overwhelming public support. Democrats justfy that by saying Obama was elected President in 2008 so anything they do has full public support.

Dingbats.

The Democrats will never, ever stop saying that GW Bush was selected by the Supreme Court.

They forget to mention that Obama was elected strictly on skin colour, when the population of the U.S. swept up up the politically correct mania and euphoria.

For myself, I would rather give credit to the Supreme Court Justices.

Here Here is a fellow who I'm sure voted for healthcare because he carefully thought it through and didn't just do as the Bamster told him.

This plan kicks in for the kids in six months and one month before the elections by that time there will be positive reaction to health reform by the republicans.

Metro - Canada's David Frum fired from conservative think tank after assailing GOP

Hmmmm another article from Alberta.

Does Frum think he knows the GOP?

They had a 100% vote against BO's health care - hard to get any political group to
obtain a full consensus as well as pullling in a few Dems too.

Frum needs to tip toe a bit if he wants to seem credible - what appears to be "nooz" isn't always immediate - you have to plot down the line for six or nine months to see the results filter through....

This was the toughest thing I had to learn in the U.S. - not to read immediate results into much from the press.... but to adopt a wait and see attitude before I started compiling virtual "reality".

The press doesn't have that benefit because they have to attract immediate readership..... but the voters can wait and see what the fall out may be.

Get some hipwaders Mr. Frum - it's gonna get messy.
