Last night he was ranting about the billions of dollars that would be spent on global warming with relatively minimal impact. In a quite condescending manner he basically said it was nuts to spend that kind of money when it would, even if all went well, do little if anything to change the results. He even pointed out how that money would go a long way in making a difference to the US economy.

I'm not arguing about that with him. Good points actually. As I watched him rant though I could easily have exchanged the words 'global warming' with the words 'Iraq' or 'war on terror' to create the same points, yet I don't think it has ever occurred to him that money spent on other global republican led fiascos could go a long way right about now.

Frequently the argument is offered that "if you're not part of the solution ..you're part of the problem.... I was wondering if you got the impression from what you were listening to that it would be perfectly acceptable to this person if even more steam-generation plants (burning fossil fuels) would get built...that increased harvest of old-growth forest is the way to alleviate "housing costs" that there's much more to be "gained" by paving over arable land in favor of freeways and amusement parks...?

If "global warming" isn't an issue and is in fact nothing to be concerned about...why bother with implementing policies of any kind...? Just keep on doing what we've all been doing for so many years and just hope it's (global warming) just a big lie...?

That's exactly what I thought when I read the first sentence.

Unlike a policy results in billions in corporate welfare, none of the radical right wingers will approve of it.
