The reason that Bush insists that "victory" is close at hand is because Iraqi ministers are likely to approve a new law opening the door to their oil reserves.

The reason that George W. Bush insists that "victory" is achievable in Iraq is not because he is deluded or isolated or ignorant or detached from reality or ill-advised.

No, it's that his definition of "victory" is different:
At any time within the next few days, the Iraqi Council of Ministers is expected to approve a new "hydrocarbon law" essentially drawn up by the Bush Administration and its U.K. lackey, the Independent on Sunday reports.

As the paper notes, the law will give Exxon, BP, Shell and other carbon cronies of the White House unprecedented sweetheart deals, allowing them to pump gargantuan profits from Iraq's nominally state-owned oilfields for decades to come.

This law has been in the works since the very beginning of the invasion -- indeed, since months before the invasion.

K - Much more to read at the first link, I just posted some of the start of it there. The next two links are highlighted blue in the original article, if these links do not work.

I think this shows that Bush is not failing, he didn't make mistakes, and things ARE going as planned in Iraq. The disconnect is only in what we heard over the media - it only seems that things have gone badly, but the point in invading Iraq, and indeed possibly 9/11 too, was to get the 'easy Iraqi oil' for his oil industry cronies, for the Bush Family Fortune.

The longer Bush can stay in Iraq the better, no matter how the "war" is going...just as long as it keeps going... there is even evidence of US troops fomenting the civil war - by blowing up the Golden Mosque for eg. - just so there will be fighting, which gives Bush and argeument to stay.

And that part is going well - it looks like peace will never be achieved in Iraq.

And not much else matters to them - the death and the destruction, the political instablity of the mid-east, the growth of terrorism, are all just side effects. Even the huge cost to American taxpayers is good for Bush and his weapons maker asssociates and corporate associates. What we sometimes do not understand is that these Elite Wealthy people make money on both sides of an equation - it might cost a lot to stage the military actions needed to get the Iraqi oil, but they get a good profit from their weapons sales and no-bid corporate contracts.

I think this explains why Bush's war can appear to be going so badly yet he remains upbeat about it all - he really IS happy about it; they ARE getting what they came for!! And that might be why congress is so hesitant to refuse to fund the war to end it - they are also dependant on the Iraqi oil revenues for their supporters... Dems and Reps are the same outfit, thats how it works so well for them. Elites Rule America, democracy is a farce.

update: The oil law

Tuesday, January 16, 2007

"Iraqis Will Never Accept This Sellout to the Oil Corporations"
The US-controlled Iraqi government is preparing to remove the country's most precious resource from national control
http://www.commondreams.org/views07/0116-30.htm

A government that is failing to protect the lives of its citizens must not embark on controversial legislation that ties the hands of future Iraqi leaders, and which threatens to squander the Iraqis' precious, exhaustible resource in an orgy of waste, corruption and theft.
Given that parliament has not been meeting regularly, it is likely that legislation will be rushed through after a deal brokered under the auspices of the US occupation.
The government, through the ministry of oil's inspector general, has issued damning reports of large-scale corruption and theft across the oil sector.
This state of affairs has negative results for all except those who are corrupt and unscrupulous, and the voracious foreign oil corporations.

Secret drafts have been viewed and commented on by the US government, but have not been released to the Iraqi public - and not even to all members of parliament.

The US, the IMF and their allies are using fear to pursue their agenda of privatising and selling off Iraq's oil resources.

--------

k - okthen, conservative thinkers,if you still believe the Iraq invasion is not about oil, well, there is no hope I guess. This new oil law is corrupt and plays into the American oilmen's hands with a huge loss to Iraqis of Iraqs mosts valuable resource.

Doesn't matter much. The countdown to terminal self-interest immolating the planet has already begun.

Who owns what and where for the next fifteen years makes no difference to the outcome...

All that rhetoric in support of the "ends" being justified by the "means"......

Wow!

It doesn't bring any good news to that NCO who briefed his troops when they got off the troop ship in Iraq a few years back. He stated that they were there for the oil, and he got court martialed for that. So from this we can see they are ready to sacrifice their own people to keep things quiet too.

Great post. Can I quote you on another forum?.

That's a bleak forecast but I tend to have the same along with about half of the planet.

When Bush started his war he and Rumsfeld said it would be financed by oil sales. So far, not one cent has come from that source. Instead, it is the tax payers who have footed the bill for the oil industry's and Halliburton's profit.
