If the U.S. is supposed to be leaving Iraq, how come they are building new permanent military bases?

The supplemental funding bill for the war in Iraq signed by President Bush in early May 2005 provides money for the construction of bases for U.S. forces that are described as "in some very limited cases, permanent facilities." Several recent press reports have suggested the U.S. is planning up to 14 permanent bases in Iraq— a country that is only twice the size of the state of Idaho. Why is the U.S. building permanent bases in Iraq?

A read an article at http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/index.html , shortly after the invasion, that stated this would happen.

It does not surprise me at the least.

So long as Halliburton and Bechtel continue to profit from the contracts given to them by Bush, the war will continue. It is war profit$, not anything else, that motivates Bush to continue his war of imperialistic terrorism.

Don't worry, the next us election will be on bring the troops home or not, the one who will be elected, will promised to bring the troops home and will be a republican, then he won't be able to do it, because of a terrorist attack, then 4 years later, the same one will promised to bring the troops home and will be re-elected again, and so on , you might think this is completly crazy??

Nixxon was elected twice on the row on the promise of bringing the troops home from the vietnam war.

Us troops will maybe come back after 30 years or more, when there is no more oil.

you could explain that thread then?

Self explanatory.
So is this...

Quote CDNBear.
"You know gopher, I hate to dissagree with you when we're getting along, but Bush did not do one damn thing in the name of God. Please stop focussing on one stupid off hand remark, and his ridiculous crusades commentary."

Quote gopher/reply
"No Bear, it's you who is wrong.

Bush has always made it a matter of publicly displaying his professed religious outlook and how he is always inspired by God to do whatever the hell he pleases. There are enough links in the internet(s) which show him bowing his head in divine prayer and supplication. True, he does not go to church on a regular basis but he does so when the cameras are rolling. There is no doubt that he does this like Richard III did whe he asked the clergy to support him in his quest for the royal seat. I fully realize he is a Pharisee who is religious in outward appearance only. It is a public display of piety but nothing more.

Still whether you choose to believe it or not, Bush "justifies" himself publicly with these outwards displays, phony though they all are."

Smells like BS to me, yep, pretty self explanitory to me and quite clear too.

Flip, flop...
