U.S. must 'greatly strengthen' nuclear capability, Trump says

Donald Trump on Thursday abruptly called for the United States to "greatly strengthen and expand its nuclear capability" until the rest of the world "comes to its senses" regarding nuclear weapons.

The president-elect made the statement on Twitter and did not expand on the actions he wants the U.S. to take or on the issues he sees around the world. His comments came one day after meeting with incoming White House national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Trump's transition website says he "recognizes the uniquely catastrophic threats posed by nuclear weapons and cyberattacks," adding that he will modernize the nuclear arsenal "to ensure it continues to be an effective deterrent." Beyond that, he has offered few specifics, either as a candidate or during the transition.

Trump's vanquished campaign rival Hillary Clinton repeatedly cast the Republican as too erratic and unpredictable to have control of the nation's nuclear arsenal. Ten former nuclear missile launch operators also wrote that Trump lacks the temperament, judgment and diplomatic skill to avoid nuclear war.

Trump was spending Thursday at his private estate in South Florida, where he has been meeting with advisers and interviewing potential Cabinet nominees. He is also building out his White House staff, announcing that campaign manager Kellyanne Conway will join him in the West Wing as a counselor.

I guess you missed the small point that Putin made a similar statement 2 hours prior in a speech to his defense department. This is just posturing.

The US (and others) already know how to makes things go boom. The 'bottleneck right now is delivery of said munitions. Vaporized gasoline and the ignition is a much better bang for the buck.
Did you notice that as soon as Japan started to glow all the use of DU munitions came to an end as Japan would be the place a new species would 'evolve' if that was possible.
The Voters take that Shogun history further that it was intended to 'govern', as does the EU Monarchy. Since the telephone the votes could have all been via referendum. The trouble is you can't rig an election or predict the result too far in advance.

Putin inherited 'his business' when is was about to be raped by western corporation rather than it being a big boom that settled a lot of the east part of Russia. Trump had the funds and the 'employees' that when a project was put into motion there were no cost over-runs and other scams that are part of the 'way things are done' mentality that rules the west in the last 100 years.
Sitting around when you have something to do is a blast, . . . or so the article I read promoted, . . . yeah, yeah, . . . that's my story and I'm sticking to it. It's that 'nothing to do' part that makes free-time suck so much.
Germany (who else could promote this with a straight face) is saying that if you aren't working that you only need 1 meal per day rather than 3 like the 'workers' do. At the same time they suggested that the famine in India was caused by a demand of the ones that now have jobs that they make enough that they can eat 3 meals per day rather than they are causing the famine by demanding more than 1 meal per day.
Guess which EU nation is holding up talks??.

Since the TarSands are closed might I suggest renting out Baffin island and tunnels in the rock and the experiments that require absolute zero would be ahead of the game

We need more nukes! Everybody should have nukes! We demand open carry of our nukes! It's our constitutional right to have nukes!

How much more modern can burning a planet to the stone age get? Just don't attach the trigger to Trump's ego

That's pretty damed optimistic that some of us will survive at all, let alone in the Stone Age. Anyway, time for another mass extinction.

I guess we Canadians can look forward to a 65 cent to the dollar with Trump in charge.

All the environmentalist are hoping with you :laughing3:

You're an idiot. Environmentalists don't want a strong energy sector.

That ought to kill manufacturing. The 65¢ dollar is our ace in the hole. A par currency helps zlmost no one, in this country.

It helps the Alberta and Saskatistan. We don't care about anyboby else. They won't build a pipeline. The US will. Trump wants our oil, despite the silliness spouted by Angstrom
