No criminal charges for Hillary Clinton over private email server

The FBI will not charge Hillary Clinton for her use of a private email server while US secretary of state, agency Director James Comey said yesterday, lifting a long-running legal threat to her presidential campaign.

Comey’s decision almost certainly brings the legal part of the issue to a close and removes the threat of criminal charges. Attorney General Loretta Lynch said last week that she would accept the recommendations of the FBI director and of career prosecutors.

“No charges are appropriate in this case,” Comey said in his announcement.

But Comey did deliver a blistering review of Clinton’s actions, saying the FBI found that 110 emails were sent or received on Clinton’s server containing classified information. He said Clinton and her aides were “extremely careless” and added that it was possible that people hostile to the US had gained access to her personal email account.

Yet he added that after looking at similar circumstances, the agency believed that “no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case.”

The announcement came three days after the FBI interviewed Clinton in a final step of its year-long investigation into the possible mishandling of classified information.

Though his recommendation apparently ends the legal threat, it is unlikely to wipe away many voters’ concerns about Clinton’s trustworthiness and it probably won’t stop Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who has called for criminal charges, from continuing to make the email server a campaign issue.

Clnton’s personal email server, which she relied on exclusively for government and personal business, has dogged her campaign since its existence was revealed in March 2015. She has repeatedly said that no email she sent or received was marked classified, but the Justice Department began investigating last summer following a referral from the inspectors general for the State Department and the intelligence community.

The scrutiny was compounded by a critical audit in May from the State Department’s inspector general, the agency’s internal watchdog, which said that Clinton and her team ignored clear warnings from department officials that her email setup violated federal standards and could leave sensitive material vulnerable to hackers. Clinton declined to talk to the inspector general, but the audit said that she had feared “the personal being accessible” if she used a government email account.

The Clinton campaign said agents interviewed her this past Saturday for three and one-half hours at FBI headquarters. Agents had earlier interviewed top Clinton aides including her former State Department chief of staff, Cheryl Mills, and Huma Abedin, a longtime aide who now is the vice chairwoman of Clinton’s campaign.

Last Friday Lynch said that she would accept whatever findings and recommendations were presented to her. Though she said she had already settled on that process, her statement came days after an impromptu meeting with Bill Clinton on her airplane in Phoenix that she acknowledged had led to questions about the neutrality of the investigation.

Nice to have friends that are bought and paid for. Not much difference between her and the Bush gang. Maybe when Trump wins the new unbiased Attorney General will revisit the case.

You are 100% correct.

It is a train wreck and another train is barreling down on the crash site.

TS... no way is Trump going to win. And Bill Clinton just assured Atty. Gen Lynch that she has at least another four years in her spot (or perhaps a better spot... Supreme Court Justice?) as long as she plays nice.

From theads on Hillary to threads about Alberta Conservatives, you always need to interject Trump. You even injected him into the Humpday Hottie thread.

It's too bad the Reps didn't have a normal person running. Trump is just too nuts. I would like to see Mitt in there.

Wonder how long she'll be smiling now that wikileaks has released the files on her. Based on some of the info that was released, anyone voting for Hillary is voting for graft, corruption, theft and a continuation of the status quo in Washington. Meanwhile, the woman who initially leaked the info is serving 35 years in the pokey for essentially ratting out a criminal.

yeah gopher this a joke, I wonder what everyone here is going to try hanging her for now.

I said earlier on, they all better sharpen up their swords because when she is elected as
the next u.s. president, they will be ready to 'fall on them' because I'm sure they all
would not want to live another day. lol

anyway, its good entertainment, coming in here to see all the panic.

they will have to drum up something new now.

and oh yeah, carol rove and company, such short memories many have.

Some would say allowing hackers into her bathroom server where classified information she was supposed to protect with her life was easily available, in return for massive donations to her money laundering charity foundation, is high treason

I love how the supporters of the Bush/Cheney gang who really did real crimes against humanity, causing the death and mutilation of untold millions can get upset about emails. Some sort of cognitive dissonance going on between their ears or is it just a complete lack of an ability to think for themselves? Being spoon fed their opinions by Rush Limpdick seemed like a good idea at the time but it has had serious repercussions on their ability to think.
