Obama Thanks Muslims For ‘Building The Very Fabric Of Our Nation’

A statement put out today by President Barack Obama on the occasion of a religious holiday is raising some eyebrows.

The holiday is a Muslim one called “Eid-al-Fitr” and the statement says:
This last month has been a time of fasting, reflection, spiritual renewal, and service to the less fortunate. While Eid marks the completion of Ramadan, it also celebrates the common values that unite us in our humanity and reinforces the obligations that people of all faiths have to each other, especially those impacted by poverty, conflict, and disease.

In the United States, Eid also reminds us of the many achievements and contributions of Muslim Americans to building the very fabric of our nation and strengthening the core of our democracy. That is why we stand with people of all faiths, here at home and around the world, to protect and advance their rights to prosper, and we welcome their commitment to giving back to their communities.
The word choice here, that anyone built “the very fabric of our nation” would usually sound hackneyed and overplayed – but, in this particular instance, given that the U.S. didn’t even have its first Muslim-American congressman (external - login to view) until 2007, the peculiar word choice has left some scratching their heads.

It’s not hard to see why 72% of Muslim-Americans approve of the President (external - login to view), though (the highest percentage out of any religious group.)

"U.S. didn’t even have its first Muslim-American congressman until 2007"

And the US didn't even have its first black president until 2009.... Does that mean people of African heritage didn't contribute anything to US society or the "fabric" of the nation?

Oh wait.... He's not 100% Black is he?

Apparently some think he's not even American..... See where this is heading yet?

13% of Yanks are black, but only 0.6% are Mislams.

The Mislams have played almost zero part in "building the fabric" of the Unided States of Murca, so I don't know why Murca's worst-ever president has said that. He is a mislam Kenyan, though, don't forget, so that could be something to do with it.

I'm not sure what the complaint is here. Is it that Obama said something nice about Muslims or is it simply that Obama said something? It's kind of hard to tell. Both fit your MO.

Kenyan Obama said something nice about the Musulmans that wasn't even accurate.

Come off it. His grandfather was a Mau Mau terrorist who Obama has said was tortured by the British (but there are those who believe Obama is telling fibs about the torture).

That's a lovely story.

Still doesn't prove Obama is Kenyan.

''thank them for their contributions"

It's quite a stretch to suggest he is saying Muslims are exclusively responsible for USA's greatness.

If it weren't for Muslims, Thomas Jefferson would have never declared the United States not a Christian nation. Maybe we can thank Muslims for helping to establish America's foundational secularism.

Muslims built part of America in the sense that many of the slaves brought to the United States were Muslim Africans before being converted to Christianity.

Under Muslim laws he is Kenyan.

You can be born in Kuwait, but if your Dad is Lebanese, your citizenship is Lebanese.

They don't have the same laws as Canada, Australia, UK and the USA.. if you're born here, you are automatically a citizen.. an Anchor Baby issue.

They need to void that law. NO MORE ANCHOR BABIES!!!

Obama's Kenyan. His Kenyan father (who was imprisoned by the British for being a naughty boy) didn't go to Murca until he was around 25.

If the Queen is German because her great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather George I came over from Hanover in 1714 then Mr Obama - whose dad went over to Murca in around 1961 - is Kenyan.
