Martinsville councilwoman offended by quilt students presented as gift to city council - wdbj7.com

I was absolutely bowled over by this story. Well.... slightly bowled over by the story, TOTALLY bowled over by the video, with the degree of righteous indignation this councilwoman got across in the tone with which she talked to these teens regarding their gift to the city, of a handmade quilt.

It is very rare that my brain conjures the C word to describe people, but wow.

Another pair of words come to mind: S B

But really, that councilwoman obviously didn't have enough to do. Finding insults where
none was offered seems a waste of time that Martinsville is paying for.

Kind of makes ya want to slap the black off her....;-)

There was obviously NO intent of a racist display yet this woman decides to make it all about race. I think the councilor herself needs to seek help for what are apparently some massive personal issues.

She needs to get off her high horse. Just because something is depicted in a certain colour doesn't mean it has any racial overtures at all! She needs to give her head a shake, perhaps get all the air out of it.

I don't know whether the students would have gotten the full association but, for centuries, alchemists were fascinated with the possibility of transmuting iron (black, ordinary) into gold (valuable, highly prized). The transformation of the stick figure from black to gold by knowledge is almost perfect when you look at it in that light.

Councilwoman Sharon Brooks-Hodge needs to give her head a shake, and so, apparently, does the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

The best that can be said for the students, who were proud of doing a good thing, is that they learned that even if you do something with the best of intentions, there will still be people who find fault. A learning experience, but it hardly makes up for the disappointment.

Oh but did they consult with a person of color before they did their art project? It must be approved you know.

So you didn't watch the video obviously. lol. She's not white.

Oops, I read the article and saw a picture I assumed to be the councilwoman. I stand corrected. But she is still an idiot.
As a person of dark color I suggest you consult with a person of dark color.
I would have liked to have seen the discussion after the the students left.
