In case you are just tuning in, South Florida GOPer Rep. David Rivera is under criminal investigation for massive electoral shenanigans.

The quick backstory:

He recruited a hotel worker to run in the Democratic primary, hoping to syphon away enough African American voters (where Garcia runs strong) to let a weaker Democrat win in the three-way race. To pay for this fake campaign, Rivera stuffed envelopes with up to $43,000 in cash. That's obviously a big no-no in the world of campaign finance law.

A key witness and associate of U.S. Rep. David Rivera, Ana Allegro, failed to show up for an interview with prosecutors and the FBI and is now presumed to be on the run from the law.

"David Rivera’s scandal plagued past is disturbing enough to show that he isn’t fit to represent South Florida in any capacity. But the decision by Republican Leader John Boehner and NRCC Chairman Pete Session’s to promote the candidacy and character of David Rivera, even after knowing about his scandal plagued past, makes this reflection of Republicans’ priorities that much more appalling," said Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spokesperson Ryan Rudominer. "Despite their silence since these allegations surfaced last week, Republican Leader John Boehner, Whip Eric Cantor, and NRCC Chairmen Pete Sessions are sending a clear message: dangerous, scandal plagued candidates like David Rivera represent the kind of disgraceful leadership Republicans are offering voters this November."

The NRCC Knowingly Endorsed David Rivera

According to a Florida Highway patrol crash report filed September 6, 2002, a truck working for Liberty Mailing services was delivering campaign flyers to US Post Office when the accident happened.

On board the truck were thousands of flyers put out by [Republican David] Rivera's political opponent at the time.

The fliers included a last minute attack on Rivera's character.

Before the truck could make it to the US Post Office, according to the FHP report, a car driven by David Mauricio Rivera struck it forcing the truck to the shoulder of the Palmetto Expressway right in the middle of evening traffic at 5:50pm, ten minutes before the truck's deadline to get to the post office which was 6:00pm Eastern.

That's the first of a slew of billboards erected in poor and minority neighborhoods in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus and cities in other key swing states, courtesy of an anonymous coward who thinks poor minority folks should be scared out of voting.

Tonight the Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting that Clear Channel has agreed to remove 30 such billboards across the Cleveland area, claiming they were put up in error.

cleveland : Voter fraud billboards that drew complaints of racism and intimidation will come down, Clear Channel says

Clear Channel had said it could not remove them because its client, a private, out-of-state family foundation, has a contract that keeps them in place through Nov. 6, Election Day. The contract also has a clause keeping the name of the family foundation anonymous.

The company has said it has a policy against putting anonymous political messages on its billboard and that it erred in agreeing to that contract.Well, that's sort of weasely, but at least they are taking them down.

These intimidating billboards were put up in neighborhoods where less educated and informed voters might believe that many innocent errors could constitute "voter fraud." Maybe they feel they just don't need more grief in their lives so they abstain from voting.

And Republicans have ginned up so much spin around "voter fraud" that anyone could be confused about what it is.

It's extremely rare, although it does exist. Here's an example:

If Obama's Family Purchased Voter Machines, the Uproar Would be Deafening

Please note: The following is heavily linked -- in bright orange -- in order to prove this is not an overstatement, hyperbole, or malicious. It's simply factual.

The entire Romney-Ryan campaign stinks of trickery. Tagg Romney, the son of Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, has purchased electronic voting machines that will be used in the 2012 elections in Ohio, Texas, Oklahoma, Washington and Colorado. Our friends at TruthOut did a great write up on this, also showing ties to Bain Capital.

FreakOutNation: Hypocrisy: If the President's Family Purchased Voter Machines, the Uproar Would be Deafening

The widespread use of electronic voting machines from ES&S, and of Diebold software maintained by Triad, allowed Blackwell to electronically flip a 4% Kerry lead to a 2% Bush victory in the dead of election night. ES&S, Diebold and Triad were all owned or operated by Republican partisans. The shift of more than 300,000 votes after 12:20 am election night was a virtual statistical impossibility. It was engineered by Michael Connell, an IT specialist long affiliated with the Bush Family. Blackwell gave Connell's Ohio-based GovTech the contract to count Ohio's votes, which was done on servers housed in the Old Pioneer Bank Building in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Thus the Ohio vote tally was done on servers that also carried the e-mail for Karl Rove and the national Republican Party. Connell died in a mysterious plane crash in December, 2008, after being subpoenaed in the King-Lincoln-Bronzeville federal lawsuit focused on how the 2004 election was decided (disclosure: we were attorney and plaintiff in that suit).

So much for the Obamatons confidence in their favourite.....

The excuses are starting already......8O

I really don't care which puppet wins, they are both bought & paid for, have no intentions of putting citizens ahead of corporations and are mere front-men for the real holders of power.

That said I do find it alarming that highly partisan companies are responsible for voting machines, software and the actual vote count. It gives the appearance of collusion or fraud from the outset whether it is there or not.

I'll bet closer inspection would reveal multitudes of examples in every state. Look at the questions asked in Los Angeles where folks were given Ballots who were not even on the Precincts Roster of Registered voters. The Ballots were allowed by Court Order. Who knows who? The Florida question is one of about 51 that should be asked.

When you have a polarized society that is based on hate rather than solutions
remember it takes two to tango. Voter fraud, and creative antics will play a
major roll in deceiving anyone who can be deceived. The problem is when
everyone is angry and filled with a mean spirit, they are easily deceived.
The problems both sides are facing, is a result of two sides that completely

Guilford Co. voters say ballot cast for Romney came up Obama on machine

GREENSBORO, N.C. –The presidential election is just around the corner and voting issues have already become a problem in Guilford County.

On Monday, several voters complained that their electronic ballot machine cast the wrong vote. All the complaints were made by people who voted at the Bur-Mil Park polling location.

One of the voters, Sher Coromalis, says she cast her ballot for Governor Mitt Romney, but every time she entered her vote the machine defaulted to President Obama.

“I was so upset that this could happen,” said Coromalis.

Guilford County Board of Elections Director George Gilbert says the problem arises every election. It can be resolved after the machine is re-calibrated by poll workers.

“It’s not a conspiracy it’s just a machine that needs to be corrected,” Gilbert said.

After the third try, Coromalis says she was able to get her vote counted for Gov. Romney but was still annoyed.
“I should have just mailed it in,” Coromalis said.

Marie Haydock, who also voted at the Bur-Mil Park polling location, had the same problem.

“The frustration is… every vote counts,” said Haydock.

Elections officials say the machines have been fixed as of Tuesday, and no problems have been reported since.

Early voting ends November 3.

Why are they still voting with these machines? Why is this even allowed? The system is broken enough without adding that kind of uncertainty to it.

What will his defense be? — I’m a liberal so the rules don’t apply to me?

You will likely recall that Republican McConnell said that his #1 priority was to make Obama a one term president. This even before there was a chance to have the Obama agenda succeed. You will likely recall that Rush Limbaugh said he hoped Obama would fail. Can you point to Democrats in Congress openly expressing a desire to defeat a Republican president when he has barely had time to set things right? Have you heard Democratic party commentators openly state they hoped a Republican president would fail? Did any Democratic spokesman say he hoped Bush would lose his wars in Iraq or Afghanistan, as an example? Did any Democrat call Bush a liar during a SOTU speech?

Yeah, there is a lot of anger and hate. But viewed objectively, you will find that it is Republicans who express those hostilities openly thereby initiating the troubles. And you will also find that Democrats are just too timid to answer back or to throw the first punch like Republicans do. Thus, both sides have a role in this massive division that we see today.

Just now, a thought occurred to me: you will note that Obama lost the first of the three debates because he was too timid to assert himself. But he won the next two rounds when he decided to show some b@lls. He won the debates because he clearly has a better political vision - one based on more solid principles. Romney lost when it was clear his political vision does not match Obama's. But Obama will only succeed in having his agenda work when he manfully stands up and asserts himself before Congress like he did during the debates.
