You know it had to show up here on CC. Politics, elections, abortion ... can't let this one slip.

Akin, the Republican congressional nominee in Missouri, made some statement like 'the woman's body takes care of most legitimate rapes'. He stuck his foot in mouth basically.

I agree wholeheartedly with Obama on this. He didn't throw Romney under the bus either. But he did say it underscores the reason why the medical decisions of women should not be left to politicians.

unvelievable, yes, 'big foot in big mouth', but they will slime their way out of it

with some sort of backpeddling crap.

I don't think that he'll be sliming his way out of this. I think he did too much damage to himself and to his party. Romney doesn't even want much to do with him anymore.

I don't follow American politics, but what he said was one of the most idiotic, narrow-minded claptrap that I have ever heard.

Another yahoo pounding nails into the coffin of the Republican Party.
Remember these social conservatives like Ryan and this piece of work
are really Tea Party people who have hijacked the the Republicans.
The worst thing they could have done was given the credibility by reaching
out to embrace the political mentally ill as it were.

... 'the woman's body takes care of most legitimate rapes'...
Legitimate rapes? LEGITIMATE?! WTF could that possibly mean? As opposed to, perhaps, illegitimate rapes, where the woman was provocatively dressed and led the guy on, so it's her fault? Sure, let's blame the victim, the political and religious far right lunatic fringe is pretty good at that.

That guy needs, at minimum, a dictionary, and some remedial reading training, he obviously hasn't a clue what the words he uses mean. He'd probably think "niggardly" has something to do with being black.

I think this candidate and our VP are graduates of the same "Open mouth, insert foot Academy." Don't worry about him advancing in politics. I don't think he can find his way to safety from the Torpedo he fired that just turned 180 degrees.

A.K.A. a faceplant right out of the starting gate.

That level of stupid underscores the reason why this guy shouldn't be making decisions about what to have for dinner, never mind policy decisions that will affect other people.

Why are men even talking about this topic!!!! It's a woman's body. Let women decide what is best for their health and their bodies..

I have my personal views, but ultimately as a man, and being I will never be faced with this heart wrenching decision that women make daily.. my opinion becomes void.

The only reason men jump into the area is to satisfy some religious obsession, yet these same individuals will complain how backward Muslims are for having their women dress up in a Burka, and how they degrade their women because of their faith. (right back at'ch)

This is the description of the slimiest of politicians. They want to straddle the fence
so they come up with simplistic outcomes and make themselves look good. He didn't
want to offend his social conservative base and he believed he could hood wink the
average guy. It is so bad even Ryan and Romney have ducked out on him. He
should bow out but I hope he doesn't the Democrats need to keep this seat.
Akin is a social conservative, he preaches liberty for those who think like he does but
he wants to limit the freedom of everyone Else's choice. That is the problem with
the Republican Party, fiscal conservatives have been hijacked by the right wing
fringe and people know it. Like pocket gophers they keep popping up to plunge
tiny daggers into the heart of the Party until their is nothing left but the smiling face
of the wolves.

Legitimate lasagna for supper? Or illegitimate spaghetti?

Doubtful. He is a believer.
However he did prove once again that extremists on both side of the political spectrum are dangerous to our freedom.

Only a Republican is capable of this kind of close minded thinking almost reminds me of the old Reform party. This guy said he was sorry after he was told to do so.

Wow a Red from gerryh, should I expect anything else from a misogynistic dweeb? Being you gave me a Red, I am guessing you feel that women shouldn't have the right to decide their own health issues.. That's right gerryh, I'm calling you out!! Chauvinistic swayback.

..or maybe you're just one of those religious nut jobs..

yeah, I would love to see all of these types of men be pregnant, along with all the problems that many women
have, and 'many times' no fault of their own, its so so easy to stand back, point one's finger, wag it
and call names, and cry murder, and all the while they will never have to face any of these problems.

would love to hear all the backpeddling when 'they' have to make the tough decisions about their lives
at those times, but it sure seems easy to 'judge' from afar, especially not knowing the circumstances
of each individual situation, and they still point and judge.

jeesh, men whine and sniffle at the least little stuffed nose, I can just imagine the self pity during
a pregnancy, and then imagine having to be responsible for the baby all of their lives, as 'many many'
men run off as soon as they know they are going to be a father, or run off and leave little children
whom they are responsible for, and never look back. Poor guys, imagine if they didn't have that choice,
had to stay and see it thru.
