Mitt Romney slumps in new U.S. poll

Republican White House hopeful Mitt Romney is losing favour among U.S. voters just three months ahead of his tough election battle with President Barack Obama, a new poll showed Wednesday.

The Washington Post-ABC News poll showed that 49 per cent of voters have a negative view of the former Massachusetts governor, up from 45 per cent in May.

Forty per cent of voters, meanwhile, see him in a positive light, practically the same proportion from the spring.

In contrast, 53 per cent of voters said they had a favourable opinion of challenger Mr. Obama, while 43 per cent said they felt negatively about him.

By a margin of 53 per cent to 40 per cent, more key independent voters see Mr. Obama favourably rather than unfavourably. Fifty per cent of this group view Mr. Romney unfavorably, compared to 37 per cent who consider him favorably.

Mr. Romney has has a rough summer marred in part by a series of slip-ups during a trip abroad to Britain, Israel and Poland. He has also come under fire over his unwillingness to release his tax returns from before 2010.

Among supporters of his own Republican Party, 83 per cent have a good feeling about Mr. Romney but just 41 per cent feel “strongly favourable.” Sixty-one per cent of Democrats meanwhile feel this way about their candidate.

The poll, carried out between Aug. 1 and Aug. 5 surveyed 1,026 adults. The margin of sampling error was plus or minus four percentage points.

A separate Quinnipiac University/New York Times/CBS News poll shows a tight race shaping up in the swing states of Wisconsin, Virginia and Colorado.

While Mr. Romney leads Mr. Obama 50 per cent to 45 per cent in Colorado, the president holds a lead over his rival in Virginia and Wisconsin.

In Virginia, Mr. Obama is ahead with 49 per cent compared to Mr. Romney’s 45 per cent. In Wisconsin, he dominates with 51 per cent over 45 per cent.

The new figures come as Mr. Obama heads to Colorado on the campaign trail Wednesday.

U.S. citizens cast their ballots on November 6.

Million Dollar Mitch, The guy who implemented a more socialist health party in his own state yet talking otherwise. Ya, he creates wealth by stealing from others. LOL at his performance in London.

Actually things are worse for Romney than I thought. Having had experience with what
to make of poll numbers, Romney should be close or slightly ahead at the moment.
The Republicans put together a campaign using language and add management that
would neutralize the Obama camp. This has clearly not happened. Romney should get
a five point bounce with the convention and if he is not eight to ten points ahead by then
he is in real trouble. The real question is not swing states this time it is electoral college
states. So far I believe that goes to Obama at least the last time I looked.
Poll numbers should be higher due to economic numbers the reason it isn't is because
Romney guts companies for profit and sells off the assets and jobs to make more money.
Right now Americans are becoming more nationalistic and they want jobs left right in
America. According to CNN a couple of days ago the latest polls indicate that people do
not want to extend the rich guys tax breaks and Romney is championing that cause.
There is a creeping movement to taxing the rich for everything. I agree they should pay
their share but we have make sure this does not get carried away, taxation must be in
balance as to who pays what.
Obama is now calling his health plan Obama Care says he likes the name because he
cares. Stole another plank promo line from the Republicans. Walter will not be pleased.

Obama staked himself as protecting the middle class some time ago- The Republicans are all about tax breaks for higher income- Do the math -More middle class than high income. He has his record on foreign Policy which brought down a number of terrorists including Osama-
So Romney has no traction on that.

He has been running a typical campaign of divide - religions- gay rights and so on. People want jobs. And all Romney can say is he will create 12 million jobs- nice to know how.

The problem is Romney can create twelve million new jobs.
The problem for Americans will be they will have to learn to
speak Mandarin and move to China.
Obama is for the average guy you are right, this is a classic
rerun of the days when the Great Depression ended and the
Democrats took the Middle Class ground. Romney will have
a lot of campaign banners to sell to collectors when this is
over.

Obama would have to be caught in a homosexual sex triangle with illegal immigrants from Mexico and Sweden while his wife is pregnant with their third child and recently diagnosed with an incurable disease to loose this election...

What's between Obama, his wife, and homosexuals from Mexico and Sweden is none of my business as long as they are all consenting adults. It wouldn't affect my opinion of Obama's Presidency... althought it might change my opinion of the man.

Wow... you're not weaponizing homosexuals, minorities, and undocumented workers are you? It sure sounds it.

It is enlightening when the far left shows their true colors about societies most vulnerable groups.

Eagle, it's not the far left to worry about ( in your country ) . But how does Mitch come across to the average American? He's miles from it. He's a corporate elitist, and you know how well they served the country in the late 2000's.
