Hopefully Everyone has herd of UBB (Usage Based Billing) and your ISP by now. If you have not check out this site OpenMedia.ca

Sign the petition to keep the internet affordable for Canadians. The issue is not about people buying internet packages and uploading /downloading 200gig over there package amount every month. The issue is that it cost your ISP 1-3 cents to deliver a gig of data to you. You sign a deal with your ISP for $39.00-59.00 /100gig per month download but up till now if you went over that limit they let it slide if you don't do it all the time. A US corporation BELL has a monopoly on supplying internet to our Canadian ISP's The plan is that if you go over your 100gig plan by 20 gig for example you will get an extra charge on you bill. $3-5/gig. That works out to an extra $60-100 on your monthly bill for going over by 20gig. Could you afford to pay that? I know i can't.

100gig is around 20-25 Netflix movies. So your Netflix subscription will not be unlimited. Every time you check your email visit a web site play a game download data you use up your 100gig allotment. I play WOW and PWI Downloaded tv shows and watched streaming shows as a regular monthly habit and averaged 80-110gig per month. Getting netflix jumped me up to 120+Gig monthly average. I had to cancel my subscription. If you have multiple computers a PlayStation or Xbox and you VoIP multiply it. For the last few months I have been monitoring what bandwidth i use. I got a bandwidth monitor on my network that tells me exactly what each PC uploaded and downloaded and my totals. There was a consistent 15-20% higher difference to what they say i used and what my network said I used. So who's right?

What about spyware, bots ,worms and viruses that are using up your bandwidth. Hijack PC's by a dishonest porn site using your PC to serve porn. I've seen it. They had uploaded 140gig of files on a ghosted copy of windows running in the back ground on a system i repaired. With this plan you are now going to pay a direct cost not being a virus/spyware expert. Your ISP's are not going to do it for you. Never mind the constant updates from Microsoft and other programs you use. It all adds up.

This will only be implemented in Canada. There is no plan to do this in the US. We already pay the highest monthly rate for internet in the world. This plan by our Conservative government and BELL is gouging by any terms they want to put it.

Another Issue I would like to add to this post. I have been a long time customer of Shaw 10+ years. In 2 months time they plan to start sending out warnings to their customers that they are going to implement UBB to all their internet users. (from a fark.com post) I recently moved so hearing this news i switched to Telus. (besides Shaw jerking me around for a month then telling me on install day cause it's a new suite i can't run a wire from the street. ?!? I'm still confused about what the issue is.) This is the first time for me being a Telus internet customer. Have any of you actually read their TOS? (terms of service) You have to accept it as soon as you hook up. You can't have internet access if you decline. They make you to sign all your privacy rights away. They are able to spy on all my emails as i write them. Their spyware is just short of a key logger. They use it to sell to other corporations and to serve you advertizing depending on your searches and what you type in your emails. This includes your phones hooked to their internet service and text messaging.

Everything you do on the internet is recorded for them to review and use as they see fit. 2 days after installing the internet I had 5 spam emails for Viagra in my Telus email inbox. To an email address, I didn't even know and had yet to use. So they already sold my email address before my internet was even hooked up. If this was a phone service they would need a warrant from a judge to spy on us like this. Never mind selling my phone number and making me pay for the wasted minutes from telemarketers. They are using up your bandwidth to spy on you. I find having to sign my god given Canadian privacy rights away (
that our relatives fought and died for ) to an American corporation despicable. I hope you do as well. I would have a copy of it but the TOS that i read and had to agree to is not available on the net. If anyone has a copy of it, Please post it. I would like to send it off to my MLA with the letter i sent. You should recognize it easy enough it's outrageous.

Here is a list of all of the people we elected. Write them and let them know how you feel. openmedia.ca has a form letter for your MP's and MLA's and a petition to sign. On the UBB issue. If your as discussed about loosing your privacy rights over the internet with Telus as I am feel free to use any of this post to send to your MLA's and MP's. 00Chuffer
