You can buy one now, unlock it, and use it in Canada. However, most of it's features requires data access... and since Rogers charges an arm and a leg for it, you might as well forget it.

iPhone won't officially reach Canada until an agreement is made with Apple and Rogers over the data plan(s) and the cut of the revenue that Apple receives from each subscriber.

Currently, there is no data plan that can handle the iPhone without paying thousands of dollars so you can keep dreaming.

The latest firmware upgrade will disable a phone which has been 'unlocked'. Its in the very fine print of the agreement you say "Agree" to when you download the update.

That'll be fixed shortly by the hackers I imagine. I'm sure there is probably a way to block remote firmware upgrades as well

Which is exactly why you shouldn't update until you know there is a crack for it. It applies to pretty much anything that is hacked.

Anyway, the iPhone is a security nightmare. Somebody can steal all information on your phone just by luring you to their webpage.

What's so special about the iPhone anyway? Personally, I think it's a boat anchor. Just get an iTouch if you like the technology. The extra stuff that you get with an iPhone ain't worth squat. Just my $0.0000000001.
