I'm trying to make the leap from the email to the new thread "Professor buys underage students alcohol" to no avail although I've tried several times. I've also tried searching through the forum site, to no avail.

It's probably not your computer. It's probably just the site that went temporarily on the blink.
By the way, in Britain you are legally allowed to drink alcohol from the age of five if you're not on licensed premises. So I can legally go out and buy alcohol for a five year old child to drink. You just can't legally buy it for yourself or drink it in a licensed premises until you're 18 (except when you're having a meal in a pub, in which case you only have to be 16, for some reason).
