A goalkeeper conceded a goal - whilst celebrating SAVING it.

FAR Rabat and Moghreb Fes were playing each other in a Morrocan cup match when Moghreb Fes were awarded a penalty.

The penalty was saved by FAR Rabat goalkeeper Khalid Askri. He immediately stood up and went over to the fans to celebrate not knowing that, whilst he was doing so, the ball was rolling over the line and into the net. FAR Rabat went on to lose the match.

One fan said: "It was the craziest penalty in football history."

Keeper error ... Khalid Askri failed to notice the ball rolling back towards his goal line as he was celebrating

A GOALKEEPER suffered the ultimate embarrassment by conceding a goal as he celebrated SAVING it.

Khalid Askri deflected a penalty in a cup game and immediately stood up and turned towards the goal to salute the crowd.

But he remained oblivious to the spin generated by the save - and it quickly changed direction and rolled over the line.

As the ball began changing direction the penalty taker for Moghreb Fes began gesturing frantically at the referee to award the impending goal despite the fact the keeper had wandered off to soak up the adulation of fans.

The match official agreed the goal should stand and duly awarded it to the disbelief of the FAR Rabat keeper.

The unfortunate error on Thursday has since become an internet hit as Fes were sent through to the quarter finals.

One fan said: "Khalid Askri thought he was a hero, but he's just a zero.

"It was the craziest penalty in football history."

Here are five of the funniest, strangest and most shocking football moments in recent years

1) Death of Manchester City's Marc-Vivien Foe (2003)

In June 2003, Manchester City star Marc-Vivien Foe collapsed during Cameroon's Confederations Cup semi-final against Colombia. The match was shown live around the world, and millions saw the tragic star stretchered off. Foe, 28, was later pronounced dead.

2) Colonel Gadaffi's son joins Serie A (2003)

Colonel Gadaffi's footballer son, Saadi, joined Italian team Perugia in 2003. Whilst in Italy he managed only two appearances in a four-year career with three different clubs. First his Perugia debut was delayed because he was on the Juventus board, then he fell victim to a back injury. Finally, after a single match, he was banned after testing positive for nandrolone. Later he joined Udinese, playing for 10 minutes as a sub, and Sampdoria, for whom he failed to make a single appearance.

3) Liverpool's Xabi Alonso scores from the halfway line against Luton in the FA Cup (2006)

Curling one in from 65 yards out in the final minute of a fantastic FA Cup third round tie? Not bad. But going round the goalkeeper IN YOUR OWN HALF while doing it? Fantastic.

4) Socrates plays for... Garforth Town! (2004)

Brazilian midfield legend Socrates, one of the world's greatest ever players and who captained his country in the 1982 World Cup in Spain, had an illustrious career at a variety of illustrious Brazilian and Italian teams, such as Santos, Corinthians, Flamengo and Fiorentina. However, in 2004, he found himself making a 12-minute cameo for English minnows Garforth Town, of the Northern Counties East division, against Tadcaster Town. He'd spent the previous 78 minutes shivering on the bench clad in woolly hat and gloves, with his greying beard making him resemble his Ancient Greek namesake.

5) Watford score against Reading without the ball entering the net (2008 )

This English Championship match was refereed by the very young (for a referee) Stuart Atwell. However, it was his assistant Nigel Bannister who was responsible for probably the most bizarre decision ever made in football. Bannister insisted a rebound from Watford's John Eustace had crossed the line and was a goal when in fact it had a) gone two yards wide of the net and b) not even crossed into touch and so was still in play.

The premature celebration was funny as heck.

As for Foe, that was a tragedy. I suffer from arrhythmia as he did and know how terrible it is to endure those type of attacks of which I have had a great many though minor compared to his fatal attack.
