English football fans have been voted the best in Europe in a Europe-wide poll

The return of the Champions League gives us the chance to see if the fans are right in their assessment of European football.

During the summer more than 35,000 fans across Europe answered a series of questions in a revealing survey compiled by Ford's Feel Football team.

And the good news is English football comes out with flying colours.

When the fans were asked which country was worst for diving, England came fifth with just 3.9 per cent of the votes. The nation branded by some distance as the worst for diving was Italy (43 per cent) - something Manchester United fans hope they don't witness when Roma visit on Tuesday.

Portugal came second (26 per cent) with Spain (14.7 per cent) and France (5.3 per cent) all ahead of England.

The supporters were also asked which nation had the most enthusiastic and entertaining fans.

England's fans won this vote by a landslide receiving 52.9 per cent of the votes. Their closest rivals were Spain (17 per cent), Italy (9.6 per cent) and Portugal (5.3 per cent).
