A wealthy tycoon and his son were killed in a helicpoter crash last night after watching their team Chelsea lose to Liverpool in the European Cup Semi Final. The crash echoes the helicopter crash of 1996 when Chelsea's vice-chairman was killed after watching his team play Bolton Wanderers.

Also, Pepe Reina, Liverpool goalkeeper whose team reached the European Cup Final after beating Chelsea last night, returned home to find his house had been ransacked. Coincidentally, a similar thing happened to former Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek last year. Thieves broke into his home and stole his European Cup medal which he won in 2005.

A MILLIONAIRE businessman and his son were among those killed when their helicopter crashed as they returned from a Chelsea football match.

Tycoon Phillip Carter and his teenage son Andrew died when the aircraft came down in the early hours in Wansford, Cambridgeshire.

Two others also died in the crash which took place after the group watched Chelsea play Liverpool at Anfield in the Champions League semi-final.

Detective Superintendent John Raine said four bodies were found on the aircraft but did not confirm their identities.

The twin engine Squirrel helicopter left John Lennon Airport in Liverpool last night heading to a private landing site near Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, when it disappeared at about 12.30am.

Mr Carter, 44, is founder of fast-growing training company Carter & Carter and an honorary vice president of Chelsea Football Club.

The helicopter was piloted by Stephen Holdich, 49, co-owner of operating company Atlas Helicopters, of Lee-on-Solent, Hampshire.

Shirley Waller, of Market Deeping, near Peterborough, told the BBC her son Jonathan, a friend of Mr Carter for 20 years, was also on board.

Chelsea officials were initially reported to be on board but the football club has said all their club officials are accounted for.

Twin Squirrel ... wreck of helicopter like this found

After a huge hunt, the wreckage has been found in woodland near Wansford, Cambridgeshire, by passing aircraft.

Det Supt John Raine said the helicopter was "largely in tact" with "no obvious sign" of the cause of the crash.

Four bodies were found inside which will be moved later today.

Mr Carter’s son Andrew was studying at Stamford School - an independent boarding school in Stamford, Lincolnshire.

He is thought to have been a sixth-former.

A spokesman for the school said today he could make no comment until identities of victims had been formally released by police.

The aircraft disappeared off radar screens just after midnight after taking off from John Lennon Airport in Liverpool.

Search helicopters from RAF Wittering spent the morning scouring land near Wansford, including forests, farmland, quarries and a landfill site.

Cambridgeshire Police said the wreckage was found in woodland near the village shortly after 10am.

Investigators from the Department of Transport Air Accidents Investigation Branch were at the site.

Jack Irvine, of Atlas Helicopters, said pilot Mr Holdich had 20 years’ flying experience. He said staff are “deeply shocked”.

Mr Carter, founder of training company Carter & Carter, lived with his wife Judith and teenage son and daughter at Thornhaugh Hall, north west of Peterborough.

He was one of eight honorary vice presidents of Chelsea Football Club.

Carter & Carter, which specialises in vocational training, employs more than 500 people and is based in Nottingham.

Det Supt Raine said family liaison officers have been sent to visit the families who have reported people missing.

The incident stirred memories of the October 1996 crash which killed Chelsea’s vice-chairman Matthew Harding and four other men as they returned from a Bolton Wanderers match.

THE home of Liverpool FC’s hero goalkeeper Pepe Reina was burgled last night while he played in last night’s Champions League semi-final against Chelsea.

The Spaniard booked Liverpool’s place in the final by saving two out of three spot kicks in a penalty shoot-out.

He returned from the celebrations at 12.45am to find that his home in Woolton, Liverpool, had been ransacked.

Jewellery, a Bang and Olufsen entertainment system, personal documents and a grey Porsche Cayenne with Spanish number plates were taken.

The Porsche was found burnt out in the West Derby area of Liverpool at 6.30am, according to Merseyside Police.

Reina is the latest Liverpool star to be burgled.

Last year reserve keeper Jerzy Dudek's home was broken into as Merseyside footballers were targeted.

Reina did not want to comment.

Soccer stars' away day raids

Victim ... Jerzy Dudek

THE burglary follows a trend of footballers’ homes being targeted, often when they are playing matches.

The Merseyside home of Jerzy Dudek, Liverpool’s goalkeeper from the 2005 Champions League final penalty shoot-out, was burgled in June 2006.

He was on holiday in Poland when thieves took his Porsche car, jewellery and football memorabilia, including his European Cup medal.

Daniel Agger, who scored for Liverpool last night, had his Wirral home burgled in September last year.

Reds striker Peter Crouch’s house in Alderley Edge was targeted in the same month while he was on England duty.

Everton winger Andy Van der Meyde was burgled twice last year, including one raid in which his pedigree puppy was taken.

Wayne Rooney also lost memorabilia, including his BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year trophy, when his parents’ Liverpool home was burgled in July 2006.
