Petr Cech: My nightmare

27th October 2006
Back in training: Petr Cech , centre, with goalkeeping coach Silvino Louro and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho in a Chelsea treatment room; and (below) the incident that left the Chelsea goalkeeper with a fractured skull

He had surgery on a depressed fracture of the skull after he collided with Reading player Stephen Hunt soon after the game started.

In an interview with Chelsea TV tonight, he says: "I remember all the way from the hotel to the stadium because I always take the programme and I read a little bit. I remember going out of the dressing room. I remember the warm-up.

"I remember the shaking hands before the game started. The handshake is the last thing (I remember).

"I don't even remember the kick off and I don't remember the incident."

Cech, 24, who is thought to be making a good recovery, paid tribute to the backing he has received. He said: "The reaction has been very moving.

"The support has been fantastic from everyone. The players, the manager, the staff, supporters - everyone at Chelsea."
