Missing hockey player Jonathan Adams found dead
By Maryam Shah, Toronto Sun First posted: Thursday, July 09, 2015 08:38 PM EDT | Updated: Thursday, July 09, 2015 08:40 PM EDT
The body of missing hockey player Jonathan Adams was found Thursday in a wooded area of Newmarket, York Regional Police say.
The remains of the 26-year-old, who was reported missing June 28, were discovered around 1:40 p.m. near Dufferin St. and Davis Dr.
“His death is not considered suspicious at this time,” police said.
His former teammates from a British hockey team had pleaded in a recent YouTube video for his safe return. The Newmarket man played for the Blackburn Hawks, a semi-pro team in the English Ice Hockey Association, from November 2013 to the end of 2014. They described Adams as a well-liked Canadian import who was a great teammate.
Adams had returned to Canada with the hopes of either continuing to play or to coach.
Foul play was not suspected in the disappearance and the search for Adams was at first focused on a wooded area near Bathurst St. and Keith Ave. where his car was found.
