I didn't even know this was going on.

On BC's Knowledge Channel i watched a documentary last week on Bobby Fisher, the troubled, borderline psychotic who was the last champion to catch the world's imagination for his match with Boris Spasky in 1973.

I guess the Kasparov/Big Blue matches deserve some honourable mention. I saw a documentary on that which made a convincing case that Big Blue's victory was rigged.. with other grand masters juicing the computers moves behind the scenes.. and IBM refusing to release the computer logs which would allow an audit of the competition.

There are an estimated 1000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, ,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 unique games in chess (a number so big it hardly fits on the page).

In comparison, there are only a mere 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 atoms in the observable universe.
