I didn't see him carrying any equipment, so how would the pitons(or whatever those little metal things are called) be driven in? Were they placed there from a previous climb(by someone who used a rope)?

Pretty brave (or crazy! ) guy! I could never do this. No thanks! LOL!

Then the pitons must have been left from a previous excursion(different climbers). I imagine that they would pretty much be impossible to retrieve once you climb to the top
