A's, Blue Jays' benches clear after HBP

TORONTO -- The Blue Jays and Athletics emptied their benches during a brief altercation in the bottom of the eighth inning on Wednesday night.
Toronto shortstop Yunel Escobar was hit in the middle of his back by a 92-mph fastball from left-hander Jordan Norberto.
Escobar took exception to the pitch and took several steps towards Norberto, who raised both of his hands into the air

The benches for both teams emptied and their relievers came running in from the bullpens. Cooler heads quickly prevailed, and order was restored without any physical altercations. Escobar took his spot at first base and the inning resumed with Norberto on the mound and no players ejected.
Blue Jays manager John Farrell appeared to indicate after his club's 8-4 victory that the timing of the poorly located pitch was suspicious. Norberto had just surrendered an RBI single to Rajai Davis the previous at-bat.
"When it's a first pitch and you hit somebody in the back," Farrell said. "I know tonight was probably, what, his third appearance [this year]? But it certainly wasn't his third appearance in pro baseball.
"I can't sit here today, or at this moment, and say it was intentional. But when you miss that wide, particularly to your glove side, it makes one wonder."
Noberto was surprised by Escobar's reaction because he said the pitch wasn't intentional.
"I just tried to go in and missed," Norberto said. "

That is way to high can't blame him for being upset though over that pitch.

Baseball bench clearing 'brawls' are such a joke. Baseball players fight like girls, all flailing arms, spitting and the occasional hair pulling. Until they saunter off the field after some tussling, completely unhurt, as if they've actually been in a real fight.

You know... I've noticed the same thing. The pitcher usually runs away for a bit too! Can you imagine a hockey player skating away quickly after the gloves have been dropped?

However, Nolan Ryan in his 40s stood his ground and pounded the batter senseless after he charged the mound.

I think I might be inclined to put some real estate between me and the guy with the Louisville Slugger too....

I hear the Blue Jays are buying a drone from Murdoch.

That is the biggest piece of crappy-ass "reporting" that I've ever read. Whoever wrote this story needs to be reprimanded, as it is shoddy reporting. Seriously, if this even had a shred of proof they would be showing this supposed man in white. Heck, every single one of the Jay's games are televised for crying out loud!

He was hoping for it to be a ball(s).

There was no brawl here. Baseball brawls are mostly spectacle. Baseball is a very non-confrontational sport compared to hockey, football and basketball. Everyone is far apart, and the guys who go one on one, the pitcher and batter, are far apart. Players have a lot of excess energy from sitting and standing around so much. Pitchers can be fat and be great.

The "signal stealing" isn't doing so well. Jays still aren't batting 100%.

Question: Does the author know what the view between home plate and somewhere high in the stands is like? Batter won't see much of a white-garbed spectator (or the binoculars) and spectator sure isn't gonna see two fingers near a back catcher's crotch.

I think the writer of the article was A-Roid(Alex Rodriguez) so there would be less scrutiny on his poker-playing.
