From Pharyngula:

This is weird: if you go to the Google page and start typing in search phrases, it helpfully tries to offer suggests…sometimes. There are some odd restrictions going on behind the scenes.
In the search field type "Christianity is" and you will see recommendations of "bullsh*t, not a religion, a lie, false, a cult, wrong, fake, dying, Jewish, and not a religion t-shirt."

In the search field type "Hinduism is" and you will see recommendations of "monotheistic, false, polytheistic, the majority religion of, the oldest religion, not a religion, fake, most commonly found, characterized by, and wrong."

In the search field type "Buddhism is" and you will see recommendations of "not a religion, wrong, not what you think, bullsh*t, polytheistic, a religion, false, based on what concepts, the best religion, and atheism."

In the search field type "Judaism is" and you will see recommendations of "false, not a race, not a religion, a race, a religion of the book, not Jewish, a gutter religion, monotheistic, a cult, and a religion."

Try typing "Atheism is" and you will see recommendations of "a religion, dead, not a religion, wrong, the new fundamentalism, growing, a non-prophet organization, so senseless, illogical, a religion supreme court." Clearly they are not holding back on the Atheists.

Now, let's try Islam. Type in "Islam is" and you will see...
Absolutely nothing. That's correct. Google makes no recommendations based on searches of "Islam Is."

Why is Google blocking search recommendations for "Islam is?"
Good question.
Maybe they fear the kinds of backlash that the Danish cartoonists and others have received from scrutinizing Islam?

That's been happening for quite sometime now. It can be very helpful when you are in a hurry. It seems to memorize places you go but don't bother bookmarking.

The problem we have is Islam is the bully on the block an no one has the guts to
say enough. We need our government and the governments of the west to clamp
down hard. These people have to understand they either fit in with the rest of our
society or face the music

But our socialist governments are more concerned with being PC that what is right. Wouldn't want to offend a visible minority you know. They will use our corrupt legal system against us.

Google bends to lots of political influences. It certainly is amusing that the particular combination 'Islam is....' doesn't offer up any helpful solutions. It is most definitely something that Google has programmed in.

That has been happening for awhile now, actually it comes in pretty handy, as it sometimes eliminates a lot of typing.

Right on VanIsle, there are certainly other issues to be concerned about.

I don't understand what you say about Islam. There are numerous sites except for the first one which states:
This Site is temporarily shut down for non- payment. Please have Pete Seda contact Datta Groover.

VanIsle, what he's saying is that it will not 'auto-suggest' anything for the phrase 'islam is', where it will auto-suggest numerous harsh things for every other philosophical point of view.

He's not talking about search results.

Maybe no-one's offered enough money for google to place a result in their searches. I think google charges people for putting stuff in its searches, right?

Exactly. As you type in

isla
islam
islam
islam i

It gives you suggestions based on popular searches.

as soon as you get to the s
islam is

You get NO suggested searches. None. The whole suggestion box disappears.
That is obviously a programmed feature. Which is odd, when you can do the same for all other religions.

This, from a search engine that suggests such common searches as, 'why does my parakeet eat my diarrhea'....

Funny, you can type "mohammed is" and it auto suggests "false prophet", "pig", antichrist" etc. Seems their filter is pretty basic or they block certain auto suggest phrases when asked to.

It's not a big deal, it is an interesting commentary on Google's need to keep certain people happy. It's something done deliberately, in favour of one religion and not others, and that's what makes it interesting.

Agreed..

But would this be the first time, or just the first time someone noticed.. :?:

Yes - thanks. I see that now. Could it just be that one person typed all the rest and the other person omitted the word "is"? There seems to be more negative things about almost every other religion.

Is it? In favour of one religion I mean. When I looked up Islam- dictionary description, it defines it as terrorism. Is it just avoiding the word terrorism or is it being PC regarding Google?
