It has always been evident right from the Old Testament that much of the religion
that is now so prominent was taken from the ancient world. Iraq once had the
world in its hands and the fire story and flood story and so on came from those areas
of the globe.
In addition the early church took the best of the best and adopted tradition and of
course they outlawed the other religions to ensure there would be only one official
living god and saviour. The truth always has a way of cropping up and challenging
the current belief system. I sometimes wonder what the future will determine about
our lost civilization.

There is very little new about this. There have been a number of very good TV documentaries on this and hundreds of books written on the subject as well. Early Christianity was in heavy competition with several other religions. It solved the problem by incorporating many of the beliefs of these religions into Christianity. One of the results of this was the cult of saints with Christian saints replacing the many gods of the Greek and Roman pantheon. The most obvious incorporation of pagan customs into Christian belief is the replacement of the Roman celebration of the Winter Solstice with Christmas. Over the centuries this program of incorporating non-Christian beliefs into Christian doctrine continued resulting in a religion that is really an amalgam of many other religions.

Here is a link to two sites that describe the origin of many Christian beliefs.
