I've once again enjoyed watching the Stampede (on TV). Every year at this time some controversy appears about animal abuse etc. Recently a horse died at the Stampede, prompting questions to those involved. As one participant said, although the sport is not without danger, the animals are treated very well.
Aside from that issue, rodeo strikes me as something very cultural. We should be protecting and preserving this industry for its heritage. Nothing is more "Western" than what those skilled and courageous men and women do at a rodeo.
My hat is off to the participants and the organizers of the Calgary Stampede.
