I had a call from a Telus representative today about switching to Telus from Shaw, my current satellite provider. I was wondering if anyone on the forum subscribes to the Telus service and what their opinion of it may be. The price quoted for a package that is actually better than my current one with Shaw was half the price, so I am interested.

I have Telus satellite and no complaints. It is just Bell expressvue rebranded to Telus.
Watch out for contracts it would cost you to get out of.
Have you told Shaw about the Telus deal? I bet they would match it with no contract.

I've had that call a few times.
The first time he did quote me very good prices if I switched from my existing company (bell), so I told
him I would think about it, then I called Bell and explained everything the telus fellow told me, and
they obliged by giving me the same price, so the telus fellow was a bit 'hot' when he called back and
I Explained what I had done, (could have lied to him, but that isn't my style), just tell the truth
and stand by it.

So I'm not helping you at all, as I am with Bell TV, have been for a long time, and their service is
great, they are so helpful anytime I need assistance. They just came recently and exchanged my HD
receiver for a new one, no charge.

I'm sure Telus is good too.

Telus/ Bell ExpressVu.. lol 50 channels, really just just 10 channels in 5 time zones.. get a mail box state side and get DirecTV. Or even Dish. If they tell they have to come to your home to install, buy your equipment via a private dealer. Also get Vonage from the US and it will auto update and you can order pay per view movies.

Thanks for this, Skook..............they want me locked into a 3-year contract with big pay out if I change my mind which is one reason I hesitated - don't like long term contracts.

I am going to call Shaw and see what they have to say, talloola. Telus will install the dish, PVR, box etc for no charge and I get half price for the first six months on the service but like I mentioned to Skook, I don't like long contracts.

The fellow that called (from India) tried his best to update my phone services too but I told him I was more than happy with Yak as my long distance carrier nor did I need to know who was calling me every time the phone rang. He was most polite and we chatted about India and dogs and hockey games. RDS comes with the package Telus offers but with Shaw I have to pay an extra charge if I want to watch all the Montreal games, that's what got us talking about hockey.

Thanks for the reply, talloola.

Shaw is not much better, Boomer...............I may get lots of channels but they are simply the same channel - say CTV - from what seems like every city in Canada, same for CBC - and they all show the same programs just at different times. I spend most of my time watching public broadcasting or sports channels so couldn't care less about the rest.

Thank you for the suggestions.

Uh, I looked and read this "
Sign up for Satellite TV Light Choice and High Speed from

$37.27/mo.*"
and then this in less conspicuous color and font:
"for the first 6 months
($73.54/mo. thereafter)"

I don't know what you are paying for ShawDirect, but ours is only $55 and we have the extreme speed internet. Prices seem comparable.
Our bitch about tv is that we only watch about 8 or 10 shows not including the snews and to watch 2 of them, we have to have 2 "bundles". We just decided to drop down to just the basic tv because paying for two bundles just to see two shows is just a waste. We can watch a few of our shows for free on the net.

Where did you read that LG? I was quoted $48 + taxes for the Telus package which had more extras than what I now pay Shaw @ $70/month.

I hear you, I haven't watched a snews station in ages - anything of import I pick up when I get updates in my email from several papers. I prefer to read my news, at least I get more detail and don't have to wait for a commercial break.

I don't know if I can get high-speed here but will check, last time I checked it wasn't available in our area but that was awhile ago. Thanks for the tip.

From telus webpage: Why TELUS Satellite TV? | TELUS Satellite TV | TV | TELUS

When we got the internet/sat. tv package, it was $50 for 6 months and before that we had Shaw cable and internet.
We can't get Telus internet here.
