Can you get coronavirus from drinking Corona beer? Well, maybe if you’re sharing a bottle with someone who already has the virus. But otherwise, it seems unlikely.
While there is no connection between the China-based 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) — which has killed 170 people and infected more than 7,800 globally — and the beer produced by Cerveceria Modelo in Mexico.
As first reported by Indy100.com, there has been a surge in Google searches for “coronavirus beer,” “Corona virus beer” and “Virus Corona beer” in recent weeks.
According to Google Trends data, in Canada, these searches started the week of Jan. 19 and appears to the popularity of the searches continue to increase. For “coronavirus beer,” most of the searches are coming from Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec in that order. For the other two searches, they are mostly coming from British Columbia and Ontario and then followed not far behind by Quebec.
Three people have tested positive for the coronavirus in Canada, two in Toronto and one in B.C., which may explain the location of the silly search surges to some degree.
But if you’re really concerned about catching the “Corona virus,” you could always switch to Dos Equis.
