And how is this year going?

As population grows on the coast and hotel and campsite numbers stay static more locals are fighting for slim pickings.

The interior is hurting and it can be seen live on booking sites.

Like gas, hotel prices vary by demand.

Care to wager?

What's the price difference for a room at a Holiday Inn in Vernon and one in Hinton AB?

Both should be full to the tits as this is peak season.

Are you willing to risk your white nuts?

Your problem is that you see an ad for a cheap room on travago and you think "BC tourism is dying".

its because you can't even comprehend the scale of that industry

It sure is.

You'd think the coastal types would be flocking to the interior for the discounted to $150 a night 4 star accommodations.

What's holding them back? The price of gas? Climate change?

Shouldn't be, the climate here has taken a turn for the better this year...…………...no smoke and very few fires and no intense heat so far! Gas just dropped another cent a litre.

Yup and $130 gets you a decent room in early August.

It should be booked solid.

How much should the average motel/hotel room rent for these days? I'm still living in the age when we spent $40 for a room in Spokane or Reno. :)

from the link:

Statistics Canada figures released on Monday showed that of the 6.1 million tourists who came to B.C. last year from abroad, 3.9 million were from the U.S. (a jump of 7.1 per cent over 2017). This number does not include the 2.2 million Americans who came into B.C., mostly by car, on day trips.
