Canadian Bar Association Denounces Anti-Terror Bill
Here is an older article that illustrates just how divided we are by LIE-beral policy generally and by the gravy LIE-berals are selectively ladling out to BUY support from civil service Hogs and other special groups! With some comments of my own in brackets):
OTTAWA - The Conservative government's anti-terrorism bill contains "ill-considered" measures that will deprive Canadians of liberties without increasing their safety, the Canadian Bar Association says.
(Frankly, I say MUCH depends on your definition of `Cdn`! Is a person who came here a few years back and still has dual citizenship- with ongoing loyalty to the old sod- and a CSIS rap sheet that suggests the `citizen` is in regular contact with Muslim terror cells around the world really ENTITLED to full Cdn legal rights? To the chagrin of LIE-berals many REAL Cdns say NO!)
The bar association objects to the planned transformation of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service into an agency that could actively disrupt terror plots.
(OH yes- disrupting the plot before anything happens DOES make the legal work of defense lawyers much harder! How can there be evidence- either for the prosecution or for the defense- if the crime was thwarted and NEVER OCCURRED?)
(Though disrupting the plot before it happens DOES SAVE LIVES! And a parade of maimed and injured and outraged citizens makes for GREAT lawsuits and for RICH lawyers! Anybody know just how much the lawyers representing that vile bomb maker Omar Khadr got paid? And how much they clipped off that disgusting $10.5 million settlement for themselves?)
It argues the bill's "vague and overly broad language" would capture legitimate activity, including environmental and aboriginal protests -- and possibly put a chill on expressions of dis-sent.

The most worrying element of the bill is a provision that would give judges the power to authorize CSIS violations of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the association says.
It potentially brings "the entire Charter into jeopardy, undermines the rule of law, and goes against the fundamental role of judges as the protectors of Canada's constitutional rights."
(This is NONSENSE since the ONLY people who would have to worry would be those acting as spies and saboteurs serving a hostile foreign power- and since Britain has had such laws for centuries, we CAN make an objective judgement as to how much genuine freedom is really at risk- meaning NONE- during what amounts to a WAR against Muslim radicals!)
The association wants a sunset clause that would see the bill expire and trigger a parliamentary review no more than five years after its passage.
(Stupid LIE-berals have made it clear they intend to continue awarding citizenship to anybody who can walk across our border- with VERY LIMITED security checks- in consideration of this- the need for ongoing scrutiny of potentially dangerous suspects by our cops will continue for DECADES- perhaps even for many generations!)

The association, which represents more than 36,000 lawyers across Canada, released a draft summary of its concerns Friday. It has developed a full submission drawing on the input of experts in criminal, immigration, privacy and charities law.

Even Yankees are not innocent in this- The Suzuki Foundation has admitted taking millions of dollars from Yankee `super pac` political action groups- some of them financed by Yankee oil companies who would be delighted if Cdn oil sands never restarted production as it makes THEIR oil holdings- INCLUDING the California La Brea tar sands- MORE VALUABLE!)

Association representatives are scheduled to appear before the House of Commons committee studying the bill next week.
The Harper government argues the proposed new provisions are needed to combat the threat of homegrown terrorism in the wake of two murders of Canadian soldiers last October.
(And of course we have had 3 separate Muslim terror attacks since those Cdn soldiers were killed! The first attack was in Edmonton and the next 2 were in Toronto- the van attack running people over and the Danforth shooter! The threat is real and ongoing!)
The bill would also make it easier for police to limit the movements of a suspect, expand no-fly list powers and take aim at terrorist propaganda.
(Hypocrite LIE-berals are of course using some of these C 51 provisions to prohibit the odious Omar Khadr from communicating with his radical terrorist sister Zaynab! When its needed by LIE-berals- to save THEM from potential embarrassment- then ITS FINE!)
In addition, it would allow much greater sharing of federally held information about activity that "undermines the security of Canada."
(Sadly- silly LIE-berals have decided to `moderate` C 51 by imposing a layer of LIE-beral political observers onto the CSIS activities- basically CSIS will have its hands tied and can ONLY WATCH threats develop- until and unless a LIE-beral bureaucrat decides the threat is serious enough to justify compromising the rights of some Muslim voters and organized crime figures that LIE-berals are diligently sucking up to!)
The information-sharing measures would permit disclosure of personal data to the private sector and foreign governments, unconstrained by the charter, and open the door to misuse, the association's summary says.
(OH dear me- WHY would we want to share important information with friends and allies? It also says: the expanded no-fly list provisions would introduce powers to search computers and mobile devices without a warrant; CSIS's powers would be expanded without a similar boost to already insufficient oversight and review of the intelligence sector; the bill is being rushed through Parliament without enough time for careful study.
(Too bad Zaynab Khadr- the vile sister of Omar has ALREADY run afoul of the law by returning to Canada with a computer containing suspect information about Jihadists- with a second computer with more incriminating material brought here but left unclaimed by her! Apparently she was alarmed at the ides of CSIS connecting her to the contents of that computer! Neither the new disruptive powers nor the information-sharing provisions apply to "lawful" advocacy, protest or dissent, but many critics fear the bill could be used against activists who demonstrate without an official permit or despite a court order.
(A while back we saw native protestors from Atiwapiskat demonstrating on Parliament Hill in protest of Conservative demands that they explain what in hell they did with the one hundred and fifty million dollars in tax money they were given that was supposed to be used for housing. LIE-beral Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney told the committee last week such concerns were ridiculous, saying the legislation is not intended to capture minor violations committed during legitimate protests.
