Cops have unleashed a new weapon that’s taking a bite out of twisted child pornographers.
Sniffer dogs.
It was one of the so-called “porn-dogs” who sniffed out sickening images tucked away by disgraced Subway pitchman Jared Fogle. Fogle was found guilty of a slew of sex-related charges — including child pornography — and will spend the next 15 years in the clink.
Now, a 17-month-old Labrador named Ruger is the latest perv-hunting pooch. He’s assigned to Ohio’s Franklin County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
The key for the crime-busting canines are certain chemicals given off by computer drives and storage cards. Brought into an area where suspects may have stashed their depraved collections, the dogs can work to root out hiding spots.
“It takes time,” his trainer Jerry Azzi told the Columbus Dispatch. “There is an odour to everything on this planet. You’ve got to find the right dog for the job. Nothing more, nothing less.”
According to the Washington Post, the chemical the dog is seeking in kiddie porn is not as strong as drugs or a bomb and it takes longer to train them.
Todd Jordan — trainer of the dog that nabbed the sick Subway shill — said dogs like Ruger can do things even the most seasoned detective can’t.
“You think about investigators going into a house and trying to find a microSD card that is as big as a fingernail,” Jordan told Fox 59 last July. “It will take investigators hours, especially if someone is trying to hide it.”
