I mistakenly thought it fell on December 21st. my bad.
It usually does start on 21 December, more often than not, but its exact time varies each year.
The shortest day of the year often falls on December 21, but the modern calendar of 365 days a year - with an extra day every four years - does not correspond exactly to the solar year of 365.2422 days
.
The solstice can happen on December 20, 21, 22 or 23, though December 20 or 23 solstices are rare.
The last December 23 solstice was in 1903 and will not happen again until 2303.
The December solstice happens at the same instant for all of us, everywhere on Earth. This year the solstice occurs on Tuesday December 22nd at 04:49 GMT (Universal time) with the sun rising over Stonehenge in Wiltshire - where the usual assortment of druids, pagans and revellers will be present - at 08:04.

In fact, being pedantic, it'll still be 21st December in Canada when this solstice occurs, although it hasn't occurred yet and it'll occur on 22nd December in most of the rest of the world.
I've never been to Stonehenge. I don't fancy going there to see the Sun rise on Winter Solstice tomorrow morning when it's a bit cold and wet. I don't know how those revellers and druids and pagans do it.
By the way, my mum's brother, my Uncle Alan, made his first ever steps as a toddler within Stonehenge. He walked for the first time within the ancient stone circle.

That is an interesting theory. It's like all those interesting and wild theories about Stonehenge - a UFO landing pad; a giant musical instrument (the stones "ring", apparently) etc.
