There are some creatures that are cute, some that are cuddly and others that are sure to turn up in your nightmares.
Whether insect or mammal, eight legged or winged, we take a look at some of the more frightening critters in the animal kingdom.
1. Goliath birdeater spider
Even if you aren’t an arachnophobe, these spiders will likely make you at least a bit squeamish. Found in the northern areas of South America, including Venezuela and Brazil, they are among the largest spiders in the world. While they don’t typically eat birds, as their name suggests, they are known to feast on snakes and rodents, as well as insects.
2. Goblin shark
Given their moniker, it’s no wonder these underwater creatures are scary looking. Known for their pink skin and protruding snout - not to mention their jagged teeth - goblin sharks are quite rare. In April 2014, a fishing crew got a surprise in the Gulf of Mexico when they managed to catch one of these sharks along with a load of shrimp.
3. Star-nosed mole
These moles might not be big, but their claws - and their nose - are downright creepy. Found in parts of Canada and the United States, these little critters use their nose tentacles to feel around. That’s right, they have 22 nose tentacles.
4. Tube-nosed fruit bat
These webbed-winged wonders boast a nose that looks like it has two little tubes. Not much is known about this particular bat, other than it feeds on fruit - hence the name. According to National Geographic, in 2009 scientists encountered this particular species in Papua New Guinea.
5. Jerusalem cricket
You might not want to get too close to these large insects. Not only are their bites said to be painful, but they are also capable of emitting a nasty smell. Ironically, while named the Jerusalem cricket, they are actually found in parts of the United States and Mexico.

that bat IS cute. The star nosed mole makes me uncomfortable.
