The remains of what is believed to be the largest dinosaur to ever walk to Earth have been uncovered in Argentina, researchers say.
Initial analysis suggests the new species of dinosaur, which is similar to an Argentinosaurus, had a length of 40 metres and a weight of 80,000 kg (or 180,000 lbs).
"It's like two trucks with a trailer each, one in front of the other, and the weight of 1,414 elephants together," paleontologist Jose Luis Carballido said in a posting on the website for the Museum of Palaeontology Egidio Feruglio in Argentina, which led the excavation.
They uncovered part of the neck, most vertebrae from the tail, as well as leg and foreleg bones.
The fossils were found in a dinosaur cemetery in central Chubut. The researchers said the newly discovered site has more than 200 fossils. The scientists said the amount and size of the fossils, as well as their unusual state of preservation, makes it a highly unusual finding.
