A bright "ball of fire" was spotted above New Brunswick and Nova Scotia early Tuesday morning.
Steve Betts of Halifax said on Twitter he was driving towards the airport at 5:07 a.m. when he spotted "something fall out of the sky in red flames."
"Whatever it was left a trail of red flame then turned green and disappeared. I'm guessing it wasn't a plane but maybe a meteorite?" he wrote.
Jan Fletcher also tweeted about seeing the same thing.
"Woke up and saw a ball of fire falling out of the sky into a neighbourhood nearby on a lake. Meteorite?" Fletcher wrote, later adding, "Fireball I saw coming down this morning was also seen by a person near Northumberland Strait and another in Truro. Must be a meteorite."
Twitter user Danny, who uses the handle @pineapplefiend, also reported seeing "a huge flash and fireball" around 5:10 a.m. near the Moncton, N.B., airport.
