The James Bay project-A crime against the environment

The James Bay project has become a major issue because of public concern about the state of the environment. Environmental impacts of this project include many problems like methyl mercury contamination of water in reservoirs and downstream rivers aswell as mercury accumulation within the organism of fish. This project brings too many problems and should be stopped!
What do you think guys?

Why don't you ask the girls as well? Are you sexist AND stupid?

Mercury is a naturally occurring element, released when dams are built and areas are flooded.

We should mothball all hydro projects and go 100% nuclear...................right...........Better yet, coal-fired.

I have a good idea. Build wind and solar to make HHO to burn in the power plants. That's green and really expensive but it will create jobs.

There are alternatives to all of those options coming on stream. There are also options to crude oil coming on line. The future is bright if we can crawl out of our old mindsets.

Methyl mercury isn't nearly as sexy as saying green house gases or anthropogenic global warming... Also, ya can't tax naturally occurring methyl mercury.

The greens need mercury for their thermometers.

I am curious as to where the mercury contamination comes from. Is it in any way connected to the construction of dams or does it come from other sources like pulp and paper mills and coal-fired power plants?

Nature.

I agree with DaSleeper ! We can't just dismiss the social aspects. The Crees population have been severely affected by the construction of the James bay project ! And I found that utterly unacceptable to distress local people for our benefit !

So lets stop ALL resource extraction and development. That ot to show those urban greenies when their power goes out and they run out of toilet paper. Come to think of it if there was not a demand for products and energy in the cities all us rural citizens would soon be out of a job just like they want.

Naw, they can just stick their limp dicks out. If it freezes it is cold, if it burns it is hot.

If Greens ever find out about copper mining/smelting and their 100% dependence on it they are screwed,

How will they get around using anything electric even if it is solar or wind run?

You can buy a sapling from most airlines or agentsa thereof to "offset" you carbon foot print. These offset trees only need to be tended for only 5 years, then the land can be cleared and more saplings sold at $40 a crack.

Nice scam.

Wonder how people will react when Canada stops free running fresh water going to the Arctic ocean when farmers and cites will need it.

Hydro does cause damage but people want electricity. How many clothes lines do you see in Suzuki's crowd??? Not a one I would venture.

In Suzuki's neck of the woods it could take months to dry your clothes using a line.

What percentage of the logs cut in BC leave the province raw? How much of the logs cut in BC are turned into toilet paper?

Have you ever tried to buy lumber in the past decade or so? I live next to a lumber yard. They are selling crap I used to buy as rejects back in the 70s & 80s as #1s & 2s because they are exporting all the #1s & 2s. Why are we destroying out environment to suit foreign interests? Why are we exporting raw logs while our mills shut down? When I came here in 72 there were 3 or 4 times more people working in the industry and 1/3rd of the number of trees being cut. Everybody was making money. Now, nobody is really making any money and three times the timber is coming down. Can you explain that to me without the phoney blaming environmentalists?
